Bernardini

His offspring continue to get way too much respect.

In 2011, Bernardini offspring had a record of 379-66-42-41 and an ROI of a miserable $1.40 (basically double the takeout)

And that was with 24 more winners than 2nd place finishers!

Normally, whenever there is a big sample, the outlier low year from an ROI standpoint almost always comes when the 2nd and 3rd place finishes are high in volume in relation to the number of winners.

In 2012, Bernardini offspring have a record of 443-66-60-50 and an ROI of $1.12 (about triple the takeout)

In a lot of instances, his lighter raced horses attract betting for no reason at all. It's almost like the dumbest money in the pool tends to all gravitate that way.

Here is his most successful offspring so far by lifetime earnings:

To Honor and Serve $1,798,840
Stay Thirsty $1,726,000
Alpha $1,270,000
Wilburn $586,515
Genten $407,070
Arthur's Tale $380,020
Biondetti $359,583
Algorithms $301,500
Via Villaggio $294,070

Obviously he's had some nice horses -- but nothing to justify his reputation. He got the first Zenyatta foal and the second Rachel Alexandra foal (after stablemate Curlin) He's had an unbelievable book of mares.

I could not agree more, and have always felt he was overrated (especially as a stallion).

They are flashy but seem to usually not develop.

They have also been horrible on the turf, winning at a 5% clip thus far.

He was an excellent race horse.

Invasor has been absolutely dreadful as a stallion -- not that everyone didn't see that coming. He was given a chance, but it was never going to happen with him.

I throw out all the Bernardini's in 2yo sprints. Don't care how fast they work. I think he would have more success if they did not push his babies. But with all the pressure and focus on the Derby what else can you do..Have not seen many Invasors. There was one down at the Monroe sale in La. and he wasn't much to look at. He fetched 25k..
