Republican lift for Obama on the hustings

Quote:

FORT PIERCE, Fla.—Scott Van Duzer, pizza parlor owner and blood donator, can bench press 350 pounds. So he had no trouble with the 6’1, 176-pound, skinny President Obama.

Mr. Obama got a huge lift — literally — from the registered Republican during an unscheduled stop at Mr. Van Duzer’s Big Apple Pizza and Pasta Italian Restaurant here on Sunday. “Look at that!” Mr. Obama exclaimed after the ebullient pizza shop owner lifted him a good couple of feet off the ground after he walked into the restaurant. “Man, are you a power lifter or what?”

The president is on a bus tour of Florida, stopping at various nooks and crannies along the way. Mr. Van Duzer, who says he voted for Mr. Obama in 2008 despite his Republican affiliation and plans to do so again, was on the driving range — wearing gray workout shorts and a gray T-shirt—when he got word that the president was coming to his pizza shop to visit. He hustled back to the shop lickety split.

Mr. Obama said he decided to stop at the pizza place because of the work Mr. Van Duzer does donating blood, and urging others to do the same.

“One of the reasons that we wanted to stop by is that Scott has been doing unbelievable work out of this pizza shop in promoting the importance of donating blood,” Mr. Obama said. “And so he has set some records here in Florida. He has received commendations from the White House, the surgeon general, he has galvanized and mobilized the local community and he’s educating kids and folks all across the country on this issue.”

And now, we can say, he has also lifted the president.

The president’s Secret Service agents looked a bit perturbed, but Mr. Van Duzer said that he got permission first. Speaking to reporters after, he said an agent “said I was alright as long as I didn’t take him away.”

No, the Secret Service doesn’t like it when people take the president away.

In related news, this afternoon Mitt Romney announced you can lift him up for a $10 million dollar donation to his SuperPac.

How wonderful to see our president looking so dignified.

Am I crazy for thinking it's a little weird that he'd let another man pick him up?

Dear men of DT...

Would you?

Oh well good to know he's having a fun time cause I don't think the families of the 5 Americans killed this past week in Afganistan can say the same.

I'd have thought that since he's staying in DC for the 11th he'd go to NY or Shanksville.

Wrong again. What was I even thinking.

I'm sure the families of the Americans killed are pretty upset, but what does that have to do with anything? By no means am I glossing over that Americans died, but how should Obama have acted in this situation?

Told the guy to put him down out of respect for the 5 who died? Should he just never do anything ever again, so as to not offend anyone?

I get people don't like him, but come on.

When I first clicked on the thread I saw the picture, decided it was a joke, and looked to see who posted it cause i thought it had said Riot but why would she make fun of him?

I mean I at least gave him the respect of assuming it wasn't real.

Googled it, that was that.

Hossy of course you're not glossing over anything and I am not trying to be a drama queen.

Please answer my question... would you let another man pick you up?

I can't see Clinton, either Bush, Kerry, Dole, McCain, any President or anyone who ran for President doing this.

It's clownish and it bothers me.

With Sept. 11th being on a weekday I'm sorry but I think any other President would do more than mention it on a Saturday radio address that most people don't listen to.

The anniversary of a national tragedy of that magnitude, the jobs numbers that came out last week, more soldiers coming home in flag-drapped coffins... doesn't he have anything better to do?

Makes me sick.

Biden continues to be the gift that keeps giving for the Republicans. It is hard to believe that someone as dumb as him rose this far in politics. Leave it to the Democrats, great job Obama on that one!!!!!

No, I personally wouldn't let a dude pick me up like that. Maybe it's clownish, I don't know.

Better things to do isn't really fair. Presidents don't work 24/7. He went for a good cause and then took a picture with the guy.

There are PLENTY of things to criticize him for. Just seems like a non issue IMO.

Understood.

Not fighting with you, Hossy but to me if you're President you are so 24/7 and should behave as such even during a stupid photo op.

That's all. :)

Wow Joe Biden...

There are no words.

You don't know what Joe Biden did for decades in the Senate, do you?

Yeah I know what he did, stole money with his corrupt lobbyist brother and sons while he made an ass of himself with gaffe after gaffe. Quick Riot go to the Democrat official website to get their made-up bio on idiot Joe because I know you have no clue on what he did in the senate.

I dare you to make a post in the paddock.

"He's learning. Planned photo ops made to look unplanned are the best."
