Cold streaks? Solutions?

Hi guys,

I haven't been able to hit the broad side of a barn since June 1, and I'm wondering what you guys have done in the past when similar situations have happened to you?Do you take a break for weeks? Months? Keep plugging and ride it out? Change the way you handicap and/bet a race?

It's almost to the point where it's not fun right now...

Best story involving that cold streak- Jamie Ness, as always, has the huge favorite in a race at Delaware. But I had a good feeling he wasn't gonna hit the board. The horse finishes up the track. So I finally beat Jamie, but yet I still managed to not cash a ticket because I have the 1st-3rd-4th place finishers when I bet the exacta and tri.

It's been a hot summer in MN, but I'm colder than winter right now.

Unfortunately, I think there's a lot of this going around.

I believe in two things,
Brief freshenings, can't lose money if you aren't playing. Take a break until you yearn to read the form and play again.
Don't change your handicapping (you need to trust it), but change your betting. Instead of going for homeruns on deep pick 4 tickets, play some pick 3's and doubles and hopefully hit some singles and double to get you back on track.

I swear I just had almost the same conversation with another DT'er.
Hopefully things will start breaking our way, Good luck getting out of the funk.

Peter, you probably have the greatest signature in Message board history.

If you're a good handicapper, the key is to not let the cold streak send your handicapping and betting on tilt. You could put yourself on tilt if it makes you feel better emotionally -- but if that seeps into your handicapping and especially your betting, it's probably going to get worse.

If you could go to a dice table and get 11/1 odds on a Hard 8 (believe me, you can't) -- you'd have some wicked long losing streaks that would drive the sanest man nuts -- but guess what, you will win over time no matter what.

A lot of people who aren't very good handicappers and bettors will have streaky runs where they dominate for stretches and make good money almost day after day. They will favor whatever methods they used in the streak of good fortune and that won't last for them.

Make friends with the Retarded Hen, find out who he likes, and go against that.

You can do what Mark Grace used to do:

Grace --- like all Cubbies from the late 80's -- is awesome.

Make sure you reduce the size of your normal bets, and as someone else said, play doubles and maybe just some small win bets, or better yet, totally stop betting, and just watch and take notes for a week or so.

I have been feeling the same way thru this Toga meet.

Eh?

RockTardHen, the man of great girth here that posts idiotic nothings, is who I'm referring to. People have made fortunes betting against his picks.

Time off never hurts. I took the months of June and July off. Did me a world of good.
