This could be a really interesting euro

Dundonnell.

He broke his maiden by 12, in what I'm guessing was his debut. I know very little about the track though, in England, called Lingfield.

His pedigree is pretty impressive. First Defence, a very well bred sort, out of an unraced full sister to Danehill.

Here... if you want to keep an eye on him...

This horse probably isn't very much.

One race earlier, at the same exact distance of 7f and 140 yards, a class 6 Handicap for apprentices, went just 0.17 seconds slower.

The winner was a 6yo mare with a 1-for-9 lifetime record and very low ratings. The 2nd place finisher was 16-1-0-2 -- and they were the 7/4 favorite and 3/1 second choice and both carried several pounds more weight.

Doug's rationale might be based solely on times, and in the end, might be true...but I wouldn't write the horse off just yet.

The race he won was his 2nd career start, the first race he was 3rd beaten 2 3/4 by Ghurair, who went on to be fifth btn 1 in the Vintage Stakes (G2) against a solid field of 2yos. The second placer from that day came back to run third beaten less than a length.

The Lingfield turf isn't much, but you have to start somewhere, and he deserves a shot in the Juddmonte barn.

He was pushed away to lead in the final 2F, and hit once with the whip from what I could see. A good maiden win, regardless.

thanks for the info Pat.

and yeah, i don't know much about that track, but i do know it isn't a good track.

Just saw this was actually First Defence's first winner.

Dundonnell is 5-2 with 10mtp in a 2YO stake at York. Field of five, look well-matched.

Nice win, think it was a solid field.

Trainer Roger Charlton has just indicated that Dundonnell will likely skip the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket this weekend as he may end up coming to the US for the BC Juvenile Turf.
