Heading to Woodbine

Hello DTers...

Headed to Toronto for a long weekend and was planning a visit to Woodbine. I was wondering what I was going to find there as we've never been. I'll be with the wife and kids and was hopeful that I would be able to find a relaxing atmosphere, like the Paddock area at Belmont or the top of the stretch at Monmouth, where we can just enjoy some time in the sun. Is there an area there that is like that?

Thanks

Lots of room in the grandstand, as the track is nearly deserted. WEG has done a fantastic job of making it easier than ever to bet their product. Races on cable TV on their own network. Access to live streaming on the website, and off-track teletheatres everywhere. Parking lots are jammed because of slot players. Walking ring is quite nice with the old trees and atmosphere. All the action takes place on the third floor. Dining in the dining room is quite nice. They have a large buffet that is open during the afternoon. If you want to dine away from the track and are looking for Chinese food, the Manadarin Buffet is well worth the money. It is 5 minutes north of the track.

A cooler filled with Moosehead, Glacier Bay or some other local beer would be permitted?

This is Canada!....not a chance!

We can't even tailgate at a football game in a parking lot without getting arrested. Beer is available at the track.

They provide free shuttle service from parking lots right to the front door.

The one time I was at Woodbine was either 2 or 3 years ago. I was in Toronto for the Bears vs Buffalo Bills game and we went to Woodbine for Breeders Cup Friday and Saturday. Both days we were in the buffet restaurant on the 3rd floor and stayed all day both days.

Do not exchange funds at the track as its usually a 5-7pt difference (right now it is 95 canadian for 100 American, when I was there is was the other way around)

There wasn't a ton of action on the outside because it was November but I was told that it gets pretty packed when its nice out. Hopefully you'll be able to see a live turf race because if you are going to the 'rail' with the kids, that is actually the turf course, not the poly. I always wanted to see a live turf race there, but it was abandoned when I was there.

Thanks for the tips Scav. 3 turf races on the card, probably will see at least the first two.
