Doug O'Neill
I’m curious about everyone’s thoughts regarding Doug O’Neill being the trainer that won this year's Derby. I don’t bet CA tracks so I’m not that familiar with him. In the past I have seen several negative comments about him on this site. The comments I recall were about his treatment of lower level claimers. Thoughts?

i'd put him in the same boat as the assman, mullins and dutrow.
and then i'd set it adrift. |

Unfortunately to single him out wouldn't be fair. He's just one of many with a clouded past. I loved I'll Have Another early on but have to admit I had some reservations about backing him just from O'Neill's past. I got over it once Rick Dutrow's name came to mind.

Alot of them have the secret stuff....so play at your own risk. It isnt all Hay oats and water, for the most part.

and thank god baseball is steriod free
and there are no guilty men in prison and outside a few miscreant trainers the sport is pure |

Can someone please explain what is so wrong with 'milkshaking'????????????
Are you freaking kidding me, baking soda, illegal?????? Sodium Bicarbonate has many useful effects in the body, and virtually no harmful ones. How can this stuff possibly be outlawed in horses? Baking soda?????? But lasix is ok???? Talk about whack! |

The article mentions about a possible 180 day suspension, but I haven't seen anything handed down as of yet. |

I said to a fellow horseplayer in the seconds after the Derby that the NYT just had its next expose written for them. I can only imagine the publicity in the three weeks between the Preakness and the Belmont should I'll Have Another win on the 19th.

what gets me about these suspensions is when the trainer says 'yeah, i need a vacation anyway'...they work so well! rather than just a suspension at this point, the license should be revoked. |

Open your mind. |

Except for, of course, the drug masking. Lots of people, as in human beings, use sodium bicarbonate to increase overall wellbeing, exercise performance and more. Too bad it gets used for masking drugs. Luckily, lasix has no such benefit! |
Without the masking effect, I would not give a damn about shakes.
