What I meant to say is that it is our first time ever going to these two tracks and I would just like to get some information on places to go at the tracks, what to see at the tracks? Should I take the tours? etc. Thanks!

Yeah, go to the Bahama's for your honeymoon, then come back and visit either one of the tracks when racing is going on.

^^^ This!!!

Seriously, those tracks are ghost towns without live racing.
You will be very disappointed.

We enjoyed going to Keeneland on a dark day, it was our first time there, you can walk wherever you want and take it all in. I wouldn't go back for that though, and it certainly wasn't our honeymoon.

CD is kind of dumpy. Historic dumpy, but still dumpy--not honeymoon material. Go when there is some significant race there.

Keeneland is quite beautiful. While it would be nice to go there where there is racing, it is not required. Better still, if you can get into the some better farms around the area, that would make a nice trip--and don't forget the Kentucky Horse Park! Also, Lexington is a much better town than Louisville.

IF your girl is big into horses (not necessarily horse racing), she could enjoy this. Of course if you are in Lexington, it is not a big deal to drive and extra hour and a half to just check out CD, purely for historic reasons.

PS: To all you telling this guy to go to the Bahamas--he's a frigging HORSE PLAYER! He's probably 30 cents short of a quarter! Cut him some slack.

I'm lost on the going to Kentucky for one's honeymoon thing. What's the matter, Niagara Falls and Cedar Point were booked that day?

Buy a lot of bourbon, you will be tired of your spouse 2 days into the honeymoon.

Hey, I was in college and broke when I got married--we went to Ann Arbor for our honeymoon. It was fine.

No romance in you jaded degenerates.

What he said. This is all assuming of course that your fiance has as much of an interest in horses as do you. Several farms have hours for tours, and there are companies that will take you on a guided tour of a few farms, which is nice because they can give you the local flavor. Round out your horse experience with a visit at Old Friends.

One more thing:
Bourbon Trail. :{>:

not sure if farm tours are available that time of year-when do they usually wean? during busy times, breeding, foaling, weaning, you can't get a tour. check their websites for schedules.

Lexington is a nice city. I would call a couple of the horse farms and make an appointment to visit. I have been to Claiborne and would do it again. The bloodhorse web site has a farm directory. Other posts here indicated that 3 chimneys and shadwell were good tours. The tour lasts about one hour. I would visit the Ky museum on CD property.

I highly recommend spending one night at the historic Louisville Manor on Dixie Highway. There is an Indi's chicken next door and also a Thornton's and a McDonald's. Guaranteed to make your new bride's panties drop.
