"Zenyatta Mondatta (P)" in JC Registry?

Per the Jockey Club's Online Name Registry:
Quote:

"14. Permanent names. The list of criteria to establish a permanent name is as follows:
a. Horses in racing's Hall of Fame;
b. Horses that have been voted Horse of the Year;
c. Horses that have won an Eclipse Award;
d. Horses that have won a Sovereign Award (Canadian Champions);
e. Annual leading sire and broodmare sire by progeny earnings;
f. Cumulative money winners of $2 million or more;
g. Horses that have won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes, The Jockey Club Gold Cup, the Breeders' Cup Classic or the Breeders' Cup Turf; and
h. Horses included in the International List of Protected Names."
I'm a little confused, and I was hoping someone here would be able to use their powers of analysis for good and clarify something for me. I was curious as to whether anyone's tried to add something to Zenyatta's name, e.g. Zenyatta's Song or something, and named their horse that. I see her name and Zenyatta Mondatta, both with (P) next to it indicating a permanent name. Now, as far as I can tell, there's been no Zenyatta Mondatta TB. Certainly not one of note. If it's copyrighted as The Police's album, fine. If it's just the whim of the Jockey Club that nobody should get to usurp her name like that, fine too because they turn down names for issues like taste or whatever they want to come up with. Be mysterious about it. Go nuts. I can't figure out why ZM is a permanent name. Just don't let people name a horse that, fine, but shouldn't it conform to the rules for permanent names in the JC Registry? This is what happens when I get bored. I get into mischief researching things. Gotta find something more worthwhile to do. *sigh*

Great find. I like the way you think and research. If I ever want to get to the bottom of anything, I'm calling on you.:)

My first thought while reading your post was that ZM is being quietly saved for Z's first little one. Or for the second or third little one.

Why the P next to the name? Perhaps Maggie Moss nicely requested that it become a P name if it's being saved for Zennie's first little one.

Since the mother to be is considered royalty by many, and has her own Facebook page leaving us with daily ditties like post #441; "Dear Friends, It has been such a touching weekend…but I must say in so many different ways. Life has a way of being like this", it's possible that the JC was a tad bit influenced and put the P next to ZM for Ms. Moss.

Just a theory.

Maggie Moss? I think you meen Jerome's wife, Anne.

That's a really good question, as it doesn't match any of the criteria for designation as a (P).

On the bright side, The White Album is apparently available.

Aw shucks. :o :D

I don't think you can just request a (P). I know if you want to reserve it, you can. It will show up as an (R) and lasts for 1 year. After that, you could try to reserve it again, I suppose, but someone else might grab it first. I don't doubt that the JC could just decide not to let anybody use ZM, but it'd be an internal policy type thing in theory. They wouldn't let this guy name a horse Sally Hemmings after Thomas Jefferson's slave and alleged mistress because they felt it was in bad taste. The name is simply not in the registry. No (P) is used to block that one. Something weird is going on with this ZM thing. Not nefarious, just weird.

Thanks. Yes, I was thinking Jerry and Ann Moss. That's what I get for attempting to post anything at 5:30am.
