The two brilliant individuals that voted Awesome Feather as top 3 year old filly seem to stand out most..

One of them went with Drosselmeyer as top turfer, the other voted Awesome Maria top older female and Ruler on Ice as the best 3yr old male..

Ellen-Hilts Gossert had Drosselmeyer as top turf horse. Great vote.

Paula Rodenas. Author of 'The Random House Book of Horses and Horsemanship'. Famous for bizarre votes annually.

I'd love to see all of her past votes.. What qualifies her to decide anything involving racehorses?

She literally wrote the book on horses and horsemanship.

I saw the book on Amazon, for readers 5th grade and up.. published in 1991.. I'm still wondering how it qualifies her to decide awards pertaining to racing..

It got a nice review..

"There are pictures enough to make the uninitiated happy just gazing, descriptions of horse care and training to allow the more advanced to focus their dreaming...An equiphile's delight."

Is that the politically correct phrase for unqualified?

Amazing that we have so many turf writers voting and yet so few stories written about racing...

I find it hard to believe the votes are based on serious consideration of the nominees. Surely the pattern of behavior is a sign she doesn't take it seriously. Maybe she's just voting for 'prettiest horsie' in each category. Maybe she throws darts. Whatever's going on, I wouldn't be opposed to yanking voting privileges.

I'm sure Lenny and Haskin have explained their reasons for not paying dues at some point (I just know they've mentioned it on And They're Off), but they don't get ballots anymore for that reason. Shame that they don't get to weigh in, but others get to make such baffling decisions.

I'm guessing these are the votes before the re-vote on apprentice jockey...

Linny 02-13-2012 08:45 PM

I have long held that crackpot votes should be examined and such voters should lose their standing. This year several categories were very very close and championship honors do matter. If I'd been an owner who lost a title because some author of children's books that doesn't follow racing voted for the the other guy because "he's got a shiny coppery chestnut coat" I would be livid.

Drosselmeyer was last in his only grass start yet got her vote for turf runner? Of course she voted for Awesome Feather too...
