SEALS do it again ...

:tro:

Under a cloak of darkness, the Seals parachuted in, stormed the hide-out, killed nine gunmen and then whisked the aid workers into waiting helicopters, Pentagon officials said. The Seals were from the same elite Navy commando unit — Seal Team Six — that secretly entered Pakistan to kill Osama Bin Laden in May, senior American officials said, though the rescue mission in Somalia was carried out by a different assault team within the unit.

President Obama was closely tracking the raid on Tuesday night, which was Wednesday morning in Somalia, and as he stepped into the House chamber to deliver his State of the Union address, he looked right at Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta standing in the crowd and said: “Leon, good job tonight, good job.”

Mitt Romney has repeated whined during the GOP debates that Obama has a Navy that is smaller than in 1917, and Mittens wants to enlarge it, build many more warships, to scare off other countries. He thinks if we have more warships, a bigger navy, other countries will be too scared to attack us.

Mitt ... see above. It's not about size.

Just watched a simulation of the rescue on ABC news....Outstanding, hostages and Seals no injuries....:tro::tro:

That is equivalent to arguing that the Army doesn't need as many tanks because Delta Force personnel are good at what they do.

No. It's equivalent to saying we don't need to build several hundred new navy ships to scare our enemies into submission by a big fleet presence, because we've subsequently invented things like cruise missiles.

No, you pointed to the SEALS as an example of why we don't need a larger naval fleet.

I know you don't realize it, but most cruise missiles have limited ranges and are often launched from, gasp, ships and subs.

Yes, I did. Then you made a strained equivalency. Yes, I realize that things like cruise missiles are launched from ships. That's why I mentioned them. That is also a good example of why we do not need to have the same-sized Navy, in ships, as 1917.

Do you have some point to make? Perhaps that we do need a larger Navy with Mittens building many more ships? Or not?

I suspect the bad guys are more concerned with a SEAL team paying them a surprise visit than seeing a few ships at sea!
