THE Warhorse ~ The Tatling

He had his own thread but as it was titled something about Doncaster I figured he deserved another and this time with his name in the title. :)

Wishing him a safe trip home and many years of good health. He's been a lot of fun to follow.

How amazing is this?

The Tatling signs off career with fairytale win

By Paul Eacott 3:51PM 12 DEC 2011
(this is an excerpt and not the entire article)

THE curtain came down on the venerable career of sprinter The Tatling in the best possible style at Wolverhampton on Monday afternoon as the remarkable 14-year-old got up late to win his last race.

On his 176th and final racecourse start, The Tatling was sent off a 16-1 chance and managed to get up in the final strides under Richard Kingscote to score by a short head in a 5f handicap.

Kingscote said: "It's nice isn't it for everyone down at Milton Bradley's and Milton himself, I'm sure it's a very pleasing moment for him. That's the way he's always ran isn't it? He comes late and I thought it was going to be a hard luck story but he got there in the end."

Owner Darren Hudson-Wood added: "I nearly cried a second ago. I didn't expect him to be in the first five to be honest with you. It's absolutely incredible and justifies going out like that. Thank you to Mr Bradley for everything involved with the horse."

... and thank you to The Tatling. :)

Ron

In looking over his records it occurred to me that he had raced for six years before I even watched my first race.

Six years!
