Shouldn't the article have been Richard Eng on New York State politicians?

Agree with CJ. It's a bit of a lazy effort from Rich who spent a number of year working at NYRA and has to know the process involved with getting the NYS RWB to OK takeout reduction requests.

Through its' own disgusting motivations, the State of New York, and particularly George Pataki, delayed the start of this financial infusion for a decade. 10 years... The money has been flowing for 10 minutes and people are asking what is NYRA doing with it? Amazing.

Somewhat disagree with you both

I have always blamed Joe Bruno trying to get his dirty hands on NYRA more then Pataki. Plenty of blame to go around.

I'm confused as to what this was supposed to prove. I know you're not trying to say that lowering takeout is as simple as raising stakes purses.

Not at all....I'm saying that Steve is absolutely right in his argument that the politicians phucked this up and languished for 10+ years. I don't think Rich's piece is lazy and that he misunderstands the process. He's saying the money is rolling in, purses are skyrocketing, so let's get on this now as the sport continues to dawdle. We can all Monday morning QB and say look what they've missed for a decade....Obviously a colossal blunder. Eng is saying NYRA and the state should be proactive since things have turned positive.
