Gaelico

Check out this horses pp's......
Opens up a 25 length lead and gets beat a head. I dont ever remember seeing anything like this. He is now with Romans and nominated to next Saturdays Spectacular Bid at Gulfstream. I like the pedigree to dirt and if he runs next Saturday he should have some bottom on the cutback.

There was a horse that ran out at HP in the 80s, I think he shipped in from the East coast initially, who would open up 15 down the backside and try to hang on for dear life. This was in days when HP had about one wire to wire winner on the turf every three years or so. The horse was named something like Invincible, I think.

Rollo might recall the name.

That Monmouth based horse did it recently also.... Precious Passion I think? I guess I should have said I dont ever recall seeing a 2yr old in August going only 8f do it.

No, it's been around and was the 1st 3yr old stakes (6F) on opening weekend of Gulfstream. It was moved up this year with the early start date at Gulfstream.

i think it's been around about 30 years, give or take...

Remember being at the 2004 edition watching Wynn Dot Comma (huge white blaze) and then seeing him win the Swale later in the meet over the heavily favored Eurosilver. Showed a bunch of promise as a sprinter before his unfortunate mishap.

This is a misprint. I've seen that colt's races and he was not in front by 25 lengths at any point in that race. Probably supposed to be 5 lengths.

How does he look? I love War Fronts.

All 3 career starts. Most recent at bottom. Red cap, green shirt.

So much for losing a 25 length lead.

Thanks. I saw that it was a 2yr old's race and never could remember GP having a stakes race for 2 yr olds in recent memory.

That's because they haven't started in December before.

A few years ago at the Breeders Cup at SA, how big did Cali Flag open up before losing?

He didn't even take the lead until the top of the stretch and even then the most he ever led by was about 2 lengths. Mr. Nightliner was the early leader in that race.

pmayjr 11-30-2011 11:46 AM

Who the heck am I thinking of then? I need to google I guess... Sorry for the wasted uninformed post

pmayjr 11-30-2011 11:52 AM

My apologies. Precious Passion in the turf. But that was only a 10 length lead. Sorry for the off-topic

Rudeboyelvis 11-30-2011 02:14 PM

There's a turf horse in Tampa with the same m.o. but I didn't recall seeing him last meet - Riversrunrily, or something... he would open up 10+ all the time. Occasionally catching a soft opening 1/2 and holding on, usually at a nice price.
