These races got a lot more of my money when they ran them on Friday night (100% more).

mnmark 11-16-2011 03:58 PM

is that a fact? I thought they increased there handle when they moved it to Saturday last year. Its still a great card every year

Comparing it to 2009 was a bit unfair considering the card was run in a snowstorm but the handle was up 20% last year from 2008.

I never had a chance to mention it at the time the fields were drawn, but SABERCAT didn't go in the Juvenile because he had a colic episode the night before entries. He was vanned to the clinic -- and in typical 2yo colic episode fashion -- 'un-wound' during the ride. Sabercat had looked terrific preparing for the Juvy and is 8-1 for this.

I was only talking about my money and my opinion.

Friday night, they had my undivided attention. I wagered on the full card.

Saturday afternoon, I have at least 4 other tracks I would spend my money on before tossing it at a track that I look at once a year.

Baffert entering Candrea and Drill in the two big races could end up being a blessing for every bettor. Each will be wildly overbet and are in tough races.

I dont like either of them at all, and Im the leader of the Baffert fan club.

I know its for $1 million dollars, but I get the feeling Drill is being "punished" for his poor BC effort with a quick turnaround the way Officer was ten years ago.

RockHardTen1985 11-16-2011 07:56 PM

It seems pretty obvious that Drill is a synthetic surface sprinter. His 2 dirt races are not that good, but then again maybe its the distance. So either way going long on dirt feels like it wont work for him.

Punished? The winner's purse is $600,000 which practically guarantees Kentucky Derby start.

Drill's sire was one of my favorite horses ever, Lawyer Ron. LR caught my attention when he won Diamond Jo Stakes on New Year's Eve 2005 at Evangeline Downs. Link about that effort follows:

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...mond-jo-stakes

A few weeks later I witnessed Lawyer Ron dominating Risen Star field. This was Fair Grounds at Louisiana Downs meet after Hurricane Katrina. He continued his brillance sweeping Oaklawn Park 3YO races -- Southwest, Rebel and Arkansas Derby. Alas, Kentucky Derby was his undoing.

Drill may be overbet Saturday. I will enjoy watching him run nonetheless...

My Andonis should muscle this field no?

His nice prep over this track gives him a huge advantage over any invader.

I mentioned the purse already. What I was referring to with him being "punished" was the quick turnaround after a dull effort in the BC. Had he run a big race in the BC, I wonder if he would have been considered for this spot. Bob Baffert did similar with Officer in 2001 (wheeled back in one week for the Cal Cup) and arguably ruined the horse's career.

Lawyer Ron was a very good horse. His double at Saratoga in the Whitney and Woodward was pretty impressive. Nearly took down the Jockey Club Gold Cup and finished fairly close in the Met Mile, too.

I'm bias on this because [redboard alert] I not only crushed the fuk out of this last year, but earned a full ride the the HPWS via Twin Spires Delta Jackpot Challenge [/redboard alert]. DeD, I can't wait. ;)

Thanks for this valuable information Steve. A $20 win bet and I am out for the day. You are the best. I owe you a crab cake dinner next time you are in Maryland.
