All-time favorite horses from betting...
This is probably the only horse in history who I ever won 3 "nose" photos with -- and all of them came at a price.
The great Said Enough. ![]() He couldn't do sh!t on dirt...but he was a relative killer going a mile on the turf. I took notice of him when he was 3rd at 69/1 despite setting 22 and 44 and change fractions and the winner was last after a half mile - and 2nd place was second to last after a half mile. He's 34/1 and almost upsets a field at Saratoga next out. Sh!ts the bed on dirt... and proceeds to win photo after photo for me. |
Is this an example of a read bored?

A filly named Caught In the Rain. As I recall she won consecutive races at Philly, NY and Kentucky at increasing double digit odds on the grass.

Sorry you had to find out like this. |
Debonair Joe winning the Vernon O. Underwood at Hollywood Park at 52-1 and a few weeks later wins the Malibu at 26-1

I had a $100 win bet on him in the vernon o underwood by accident. I wanted to bet the #4 horse in the 9th race but I played the 8th race instead. By the time I got home I noticed I bet the wrong race and was very upset but the horse won at 52-1. The #4 horse did win the 9th race but he was only 5-1.
The malibu I had a $2 4 horse Exacta Box. |
That's nuts.

I have an even crazier story of winning the Magna Pick 5 on Feb 25th 2006 for 11.7k before Uncle Sam's 25%. Einstein would have to be my most sentimental favorite horse over debonair Joe.
|
Einstein is probably the first horse to win Grade 1 races on Dirt, Turf and Synthetic.

Diplomatic Jet.. 30-1 in the Manhattan, 12-1 in the Man O War, finally got a little respect in the Turf Classic and paid almost $14 for the win..

Not that I know of. The '09 Big Cap was Pro-Ride, right?
Lava Man has a Gr 1 win on each surface. |
Back when I first got into racing, and I didn't know much, I saw a couple of horses jumping up 2-3 claiming levels off of a 1-2 finish very recently.
Not really understanding the nuances of how the claiming system worked, I decided what the hell, these two shouldn't be going off at such a large price, and I boxed them. Sure as shid, Quip Star and Cachuma came back 1-2 again and the exacta paid something like 350 bucks. Some other claimers I really did well with included Bulig Z., Chris's Lad and abergwaun lad. They were never huge prices, but I always seemed to hit them on the right days. Abergwaun Lad was probably the most claimed horse I can think of. My favorite horse to bet was Tight Spot. I waited for him to Turf, and I bet him every start on Turf he made, right up till his BC mile appearance, which I knew he couldn't win. Made a killing betting Glen Hill Farm Relaunch babies the first couple of crops he sired. |

You and I had a little catfight about Said Enough on the old AOL boards in early 2000. Poor horse ended his days racing at Los Al.

Chedoke Falls....cheap claimer who was virtually unbeatable at Penn National going 5-6furlongs, folks kept betting against him and I kept winning with him.
