Which, if any?

Which, if any, Breeders' Cup race are you excited about? This is shaping up to be the worst dirt Breeders' Cup in history by a mile. Even Mike Watchmaker's epic BC previews now available on drf.com can't incite interest in this thing.

I hear the race after the Classic is going to be a doozy.

RolloTomasi 10-17-2011 09:55 PM

A lot of questions should be answered on BC Day.

For example, which race will Awesome Gem finish unplaced in?

Also, there should be a record number of cross-entries, seeing how they have 2-3 races for every type of horse.

I cannot disagree with you on the overall dismal shape these races are taking on, but at least for me, the BCC is the most interesting running of it in years.

VOL JACK 10-18-2011 05:32 AM

There will be a lot of blah type races with a gate full of average horses. (see BC Sprint)

There will also be a lot of overlays to be found, which is always what makes the BC weekend the best action of the year.

Clip-Clop 10-18-2011 09:39 AM

Right now, it has to be the mile for me. The Classic and Sprint should both be good betting races I think but for me this BC will be all about Goldikova.

The standout choice is clearly the marathon, followed by the hard charging second of the juvy sprint

but honestly, anything on the turf i'm interested in seeing

Juv Fillies - Don't know my excitement level but I'll probably be on Awesome Belle there. So yeah, if she's around the front in the final 1/16 I'll probably be excited.

Sprint - I think it's a great race with The Factor coming off a bad race, Big Drama going in off 8+ weeks just like last year and Giant Ryan going for his 7th straight. I think Giant Ryan's Vosburgh was no fluke. Just shows good horses can come from anywhere.

Classic - I thought Mo was finished and I'm glad I was wrong. And he has a shot to still move forward and do something very special in the race. The other top three all are real good. If Tizway wins, Met-Whitney-BCC, pretty good. If HdG wins, she's likely HoTY.

I'm not much for declaring a BC ( or a 3 yo crop, etc...) "worst since..." I understand why people like to compare years but Ghostzapper isn't coming back.

blackthroatedwind 10-18-2011 11:49 AM

Who's Awesome Belle?

lemoncrush 10-18-2011 11:52 AM

It's obvious the glut of races being added (especially in the juvenile division, where their aren't enough BC worthy horses to even come close to fill all the races) hurts the overall depth and quality.

But perhaps having so many races will give the opportunity for some new faces to emerge. As another poster remarked, it appears we will have a lot of good betting races, which will help offset any frustration with the lack of star appeal, rivalries, etc...

Good Luck with her, but I would think that the pace will be much hotter then the absolute crawl that race was.

For the record, I enjoy and look forward to all the races. It's my favorite day/days of the year.

Everything about Awesome Belle screams "last time was the time."

I never understood that saying. Is that like "if you weren't there for the wedding, don't go for the funeral?"

Anyway, sorry you are distressed by the dirt races.

For those of you who care, here's a replay of the race.

Now that Awesome Gem is not running we dont even have that question to be answered
