Nyra.com makes a change

Looks like the web site has changed formats to one very similar to the equibase.com version.. I like the fact that they made a change, but I like this format about as much as equibase. (which is not very much!)

You know what the best part is?

Over on the story headlines, it says "Magnificent Song becomed a Grade 1 winner."

Isn't that awesome that he becomed one?

zippyneedsawin 09-12-2006 08:31 AM

LOL... yeah, I'm sure they'll corrected it to read "Magnificent Song woned the Garden City BC"

Gander 09-12-2006 08:35 AM

Format & appearance looks much better. Nice, long overdue change.

"Magnificent Song Becomed A Grade 1 Winner"

LOL! 4th grade english? Dont they have editors over there?

I guess I don't like change, but my first impression is not a favorable one for the new format... maybe I'll learn to like it though..

I think the grammatics part is a lot worse of a mistake than mistakenly calling a horse who is a she a he. Dont you?

And you actually liked their old format? It was an utter mess and anything different than that is an improvement.

I understand what you're saying, but the new site appears to have lost a lot of the 'perks' the old one offered.. including: 1)the PPs for stakes nominations are gone 2) video archive.. it appears to be ALL through racereplays.com now.. great for "day of" races, but where are the old archives of stakes races?? (including Secretariat's Belmont?!?) 3) Now all Results & Entries are through equibase.com..-the old system allowed you to look up results from MONTHS AGO for free, and the PROGRAM POSITIONS showed betting options per race and actual horse entry numbers vs. post positions (ala equibase).. 4) NYRA contests... non-existent at this point (maybe it will return, we'll see) 5) I'm sure there are other things I'm can't think of right now, but they'll surface.

I admit, I haven't fully explored the site, so maybe some of these things are still there, I haven't found them yet. But what I've seen so far is disappointing considering what is now not available at the web site. It's probably the result of consolidation, which is their choice, of course.

I'm not sure why NYRA wont have those showdown contests anymore. They were fun and got a lot of people interested in following the day to day races, perhaps increasing handle as well. I know a guy who won one of them 2 years ago and he made lots of cover bets the last week of the contest to assure himself some cash whether or not he won the contest.

So why take them away? For $10 you could get a lot of juice. I finished 28th in the fall one last year and had a lot of fun.

Nope, and I used to love how they had that laid out, so simple to understand

Why is it that people ALWAYS try to improve a good thing?

Yeah, I liked the showdown contest a lot. I never finished in the money but came close once or twice. I read an article before the Saratoga meet where NYRA officials said they planned on bringing their contests back eventually. I have a feeling we won't see any type of contest until after the franchise issue is determined. Well see.

i like the new site. the stakes schedule i use is on the bloodhorse. it has all the stakes all over the country listed.

Pedigree Ann 09-12-2006 08:22 PM

I miss the history of the stakes events that they had on the old site. I found that very useful in my work.

Cunningham Racing 09-12-2006 08:46 PM

Cue Ernie McCracken with a comment about how you are being too negative and are burning bridges in the industry

philcski 09-12-2006 10:25 PM

I spent a lot of time 4 years ago developing spreadsheets to utilize the data layout on the NYRA site so today is a total disaster. I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN!!! And on top of it, you used to be able to access historical charts from up to year ago- all gone. Now we get crappy Equibase 3 day pdfs. SH!T!
