Terrific lineup. Best Shadwell I've seen in years.

If only Ramon had stayed with Get Stormy

Yeah, why ride a horse with a big chance over one with no chance whatsoever. That Steve Rushing is such a dope.

Why would you say he has no chance whatsoever? He won 2 G1 this year and finished in the money 5 of his last 6. Won 2 of 3 starts at Kee. Came second to Turallure in his last race who ended up winning the Woodbine Mile.

Because he isn't good enough, he can't get the trip he needs, and his form has declined. Other than that, he looks very strong.

So Many great races Saturday but this is one Saturday that I can't bet, Yom Kippur. Instead of praying the bets I make win I will have to pray in Synangogue this week. Good luck to all, and any folks of the Jewish faith may I wish you an easy fast.

Theyskens' Theory tabbing First Lady over Spinster

Shug McGaughey says Theyskens' Theory will opt for Saturday's First Lady over Sunday's Spinster..

I've never been a big fan of his, but it's hard not to respect Gio Ponti and Clement's faith in him.

OldDog 10-08-2011 05:06 PM

I've always loved Gio. He always gets out there and tries. Tremendous showing today. Who wouldn't love to see him go out winning the BC Mile!

Kudos to Get Stormy, too.

Ramon stayed on the right horse but your assessment of Get Stormy was exagerated.

I understand the politics of grading races but how synthetic versions of formerly important races retain their grades is almost criminal. One of the few good things the committee did years ago is downgrade then reexamine stakes taken off the turf. How synthetic races can remain on the same level as traditional races on turf and dirt is really a joke. At Keeneland alone going back to when the installed poly, how many graded races have been won by horses with weak form, before and after? This happens time and time again. Look at the Commonwealth

Dullahan's Trakus chart looks crazy. . . he lost an absurd amount of ground. He'll never do anything on dirt, but he might be a serious turf horse.

The race run Friday was the GIII Phoenix. . . I agree with your overall point, though.

NTamm1215 10-09-2011 11:02 AM

You have to wonder if it would have made any difference had Gio Ponti been ridden like he was yesterday in some of his losses earlier this year. It seemed as if Ramon felt like he was always going to have a difficult time getting 10-11 furlongs so the only way to ride him was to drop way back and make one run. He was kept much closer yesterday and it paid off.

That's why he made two straight appearances on Trips&Traps. I have little doubt he is a serious horse. I doubt, like you however, that it will happen on dirt.

You're just pissed the race was rained off the other day and you missed a chance to claim Together Indy for a quarter.

Ya I remember you liking him too. . . hope you got some of that 17-1.

Just a little.

I have a tough time betting much on that surface.
