Ortiz is actually saying Jeter shouldn't get the AL MVP.Let me tell ya the most valuable player this year in the A.L. That would be the guy that is simply carrying the A's across that finish line. Frank Thomas would get my vote. When they need a lift that guy is there to provide it.Your not very valuable to your team if you are out of the line up in late August for 10 games.I don't blame Ortiz for that health issue, but fact is he wasn't around to provide value.Papi wait until next year.It all comes down to whether you think the MVP should come from a team that doesn't make the post.In my opinion the MVP should be reserved for players on teams that make the post.Players that carry their team in August and September.Either Jeter or Thomas would be fine with me.

I think Howard deserves MVP in the National, in the American...it's unclear yet, I think Mauer deserves consideration along with Jeter and Ortiz. If the last game of the regular season determines the wild card, the Twins are scheduled to pitch Santana...a win by him to clinch the playoffs coupled with his year long performance would make him a serious candidate as well, he's gotta win the Cy Young this year...could a pitcher win MVP as well?

MVP usually is an every day player.I am against giving it to a guy that didn't play when his team tanked in late August.Your weren't that much of a value to the team if you weren't there in that part of the season. Can't have it both ways(which Boston seems to want to have it this year.)That team gives up.and then somebody on that team wants MVP? Go away.
