Calder starting head-to-head bet
By Mike Welsch

Calder will institute its newest wager, the Saturday Showdown, beginning with Saturday’s Juvenile Showcase program.

The Saturday Showdown is a head-to-head wager in which a bettor must pick which of two pre-designated horses will finish ahead of the other in the last race on each Saturday card throughout the remainder of the meet. The wager will carry an 18-percent takeout and requires a $1 minimum bet.

“This new wager is easy for fans of all levels to understand and play,” said Calder’s vice president and general manger of racing, John Marshall. “But we expect it to be most appealing to newcomers.”

Marshall said the track’s racing secretary, Mike Anifantis, will determine the two horses involved in the wager each week.

Anifantis has chosen first-time starter Callas and Angel Dreams to go head to head in the inaugural Saturday Showdown in the 13th race on Saturday’s card

Look -- we all know that most of the powers that be in horse racing are easily some of the dumbest motherfucl<ers to ever hold employment in positions above peep show jizm mopper or taco bell floor sweeper.

Every time these worthless pieces of sh!t try something new it only furthers the frontiers of human imbecility.

I'm counting the days until they start falling like flies and are found face down in a bowl of paintchips.

Head-to-head betting with an 18% takeout + breakage .... and you kick it all off with a mother fucl<ing first-time starter in the days only match-up?????

This really takes the cake.

That's how you compete with the football bettor and get the fantasy football players in .... bring 'em in with an attractive bet like 1/5 odds on the maiden VS 4/5 odds on the first-time starter.

I thought everyone knew that when you bet a head to head.. you dont put the bet through the window, you just bet head to head with a buddy. no takeout except for tequila.

A lot of people choose to bet Football with bookmakers -- despite the 4.5% takeout involved with that. Of course, Pinnacle came around and made itself king of the gambling websites by undercutting that with -- in some cases - just a 2.25% takeout on major sports.

I wonder how long it's been since the last time two buddys bet each other head-to-head on a first-time starter VS a maiden who was drubbed 13.5 lengths last time out?

18% takeout + breakage is almost a 20% takeout.

Del Mar's 10% takeouts on head-to-head typically ends up with an 11.6% takeout after breakage.

These dolts think Lasix is the reason that the game is in constant decline. I am ashamed that I share a last name with this guy.

He is ruining your good name!

The lasix debate -- from both sides -- is a huge waste of breath to me. I don't care what happens either way. It's a complete non-issue.

Here is an amusing column I found after my father was telling me about it -- he was training at FL during this time peroid.

Trust me on this... you share nothing otherwise.

He is a very boring and unimaginative guy.

This great marketing idea actually got a grand total of $815 in the pool.

the 6 went off at 4/5 with $340 wagered

the 12 went off at 2/5 with $475 wagered

The #12, a mdspwt dropper, won the H2H wager while finishing 2nd and paid $2.80 for $2

The #6, a first time starter, finished LAST

Yeah -- a 2/5 shot VS a 4/5 shot!

AND -- a grand total of $815 in the pool after using SENSATIONAL marketing skillls to get the DRF to write a column about this new bet at Calder -- on my facebook feed ... I had 3 different people link a story about this new bet.

I will say this ... horse racing has some good marketing people now. I mean, they can flat out market.

These guys probably all went to college for four years and stuff.

Too bad they're all stupid and they all know absolutely nothing about horse racing and even less about gambling.
