On HDNet right now, and saying how the horse has become an acceptable comparsion with humans when it comes to joint damage.

Very interesting.

Didn't Lava Man and Fabulous Strike have something sort of like this?

Greg's Gold did on a tendon and he came back and won a few stakes after it.

How old was he when he had it? I believe it didn't do much to prolong the careers of LM and FS ... but they were both ancient when they had it - and had to come back off of long layoffs.

Thanks for the link. Looks like they got twelve starts out of him after the stem cell procedure...five wins, four seconds and a third.

We did stem cell treatments on a four year-old gelding horse, with 16 starts at the time, that suffered a torn suspensory (vet rated the tear a 7 out of 10). He was away from the races for about 14 months. He won his return (matching prior speed figure top) and raced three more times before having to be retired earlier this year (at age six) due to a soft tissue injury to the other leg.

Talked to a lot of people about it, and I've never been certain if it was the stem cell therapy, giving the horse a lot of time off, or a combination of both that allowed the horse to come back as well as he did. The whole stem cell process only cost about $3,000.
