California At The Breaking Point

And I don't mean earthquakes. Interesting trainer comments as well. Enjoy.

It's simple despite what nonsense the past leadership of the TOC wants you to think.....California no longer has enough horses to entice players to bet on them regularly. The purses continue to fall as handle continues to lead them all to certain failure. What was one time a competitor to east coast racing is now a pathetic collection of five horse fields and lost racing days.

They will be looking even smarter when Aqueduct's purses are double of what Santa Anita's will be next winter.

Wow, this sounds like it would have been a great scene. A bunch of owners/trainers looking down their nose at a horseplayer and a room full of people that think the racing industry would cease to exist if not for them.

Pretty Much sums it up. Complete pooch screw.

Who is telling these people that raising takeout is going to solve those problems?

All it's going to do is compound the problem and make things much worse, much faster, and much harder to recover from.

The correct thing to do would have been to steal from the Tampa Bay Downs playbook and cut takeout mildly each year - for every year to come.

Sure - it would take about 60 years for everything to start smelling like complete roses at the TBD rate - but you'd be making progress all the time.

It is.

If that same collection of dunces was faced with a 450lbs lady who came to them complaining that she "can't find a large audience in the public who views her as attractive and wants to risk time and money on her"

They would get together - and tell this fat lady that the solution to her problem is that she just needs to eat more calories.

No worry. Del Mar will introduce another new bet that will really shake things up.

The ironic thing is, he's probably the only person on DT to have not read this book.

Other than backwoods rednecks that is.

Oh, nevermind.

:)

In case you didn't watch the outcome of that Spelling Bee that ESPN televised earlier this month:

Gold: Pennsylvania
Silver: Canada
Bronze: Pennsylvania

Just because my formal education, book reading totals, and spelling skills are mock worthy ... doesn't mean I come from a dumb part of the country.
