Some Gun Bow competiton from his huge wins

I wish I had the actual PPs of his three (possibly even 4) killer races from 1964 to post. I have results with the times - and some cuts of form for some of the horses he beat.

Olden Times was 2nd by 12 and Kelso 5th by 14 to Gun Bow in a loaded '64 Brooklyn. Amazing because those are the kind of horses that are impossible to dust. Read the kind of stuff that was being said about Olden Times that summer.

And of course Kelso "the horse of gold" - was a 5 time Horse of the Year and one of the most beastly dirt route specialists ever.

* Here's a cut from '63 of Mongo - he's in the Champions book if you want his full PP's ...

After destroying Olden Times and Kelso in the Brooklyn - Gun Bow (under 130lbs) torched Mongo by 10 lengths in the Whitney - an excellent champion, Mongo brought career best form into that race and finished a distant 2nd.

I wish I had some of the California horses Gun Bow destroyed out there early in his 4yo season. I only have what came back East afterwards from those races.

Deal Carl was a very good 3yo East Coast distance specialist - he crushed a good field by 12 in the slop in the Display. Couldn't handle the faster paces in So. Cal

Admiral's Voyage had just dusted the excellent Cyrano and the Hall of Famer Native Diver - he couldn't get to Gun Bow early and faded bad. He had success coming East.

Native Diver is in the Champions book - he got murdered by Gun Bow in the West.

Gun Bow's biggest win coming when he won the Strub by 12 lengths over a 13 horse field - he actually had a 15 length lead at the stretch call.

Weird horse. He is to a Kelso what Commentator might be to Cigar in terms of consistantcy.

Gun Bow's greatest claim to fame was that he was bred by a Mainah.

Hey, maybe it's just me, but it's good to have you back to post something interesting regularly.

I was a fan of one of his babies. Dancing Gun was a nice little horse. If I'm not mistaken won the Whitney then finished third to Nearly On Time a year later (Forego's worst race).

Laz had some good horses running in the East back then...Excepto and Blue Times for Aaron U. Jones, El Pitirre and El Portugues for Enrique Ubarri and Barrera, Due Diligence and Affiliate for Harbor View.

Good Memories.
