This is not a handicapping thread!

I'm not seeing too many strong opinions for the Belmont and was wondering... not who you're looking at or using on top but is there someone you're rooting for?

I keep looking at pp's and my eyes are starting to glaze over but I have one (rooting interest).

I will, of course, let someone else go first.

Who do you hope wins and why?

MaTH716 06-09-2011 12:54 PM

Shackelford - for Rootdog

Stay Thirsty - for my own entertainment, because the fallout around here would probably be pretty entertaining (and comical).

my miss storm cat 06-09-2011 12:58 PM

Stay Thirsty... so he can shut the haters the hell up and because he was always the second banana, the afterthought, the younger sibling (you know what I mean).

Mainly for the first reason though. :D

This would be my pick too. I go with the second banana theory. Everyone, even Dad Rapole has been paying so much attention to Mo. It would be cool for the little bro Thirsty to sneak up on this group and take the Belmont. Where he should be running aside, he gets no respect.

Monzon. Just because

OldDog 06-09-2011 01:44 PM

I'll yell for AK or Shack, and would be happy to see either win. Not only because it might be "good for the sport" but because I would like to see a dominant 3YO or pair of 3YOs for the year. Imagine if they finish 1-2 and continue to face off against each other. If not those two, then I'll be happy if Mucho Macho Man or Brilliant Speed manages to pull it off. MMM because he's been well-campaigned for a (not even yet) 3YO and it seems he just can't catch a break, and BS because of his breeding and connections (and I'm a big fan of Dynaformer).

OldDog's getting excited! (a la George Costanza)

ateamstupid 06-09-2011 01:48 PM

Nehro, because he's been bridesmaid so many times.

Zayat makes my skin crawl.

Indian Charlie 06-09-2011 02:36 PM

Animal Kingdom, both to keep BI in the spotlight and to get the comical reactions to him on here.

Port Conway Lane 06-09-2011 03:02 PM

Monzon, because of the sire, the breeder and state pride.

viscount26 06-09-2011 03:03 PM

Master of Hounds for all those air miles:rolleyes:

Yeah but I have a lot of respect for the horse.

cakes44 06-09-2011 03:28 PM

Isn't He Perfect, because Samir Nagheenanajar or whatever his trainer is the man.

Indian Charlie 06-09-2011 03:57 PM

That Shak horse, cause, I think it would be a fitting honor for the recently retired Shaq.

Rileyoriley 06-09-2011 07:22 PM

I'd like to see Animal Kingdom, Mucho Macho Man, and Shackleford finish in a trifecta (no specific order). They're the only 3 who ran in all 3 TC races and I give the horses, owners, and trainers kudos for that.:tro:

flipsal 06-09-2011 07:41 PM

Nehro..even though he has more exposure than congressman weiner!

:tro: agreed at a time when trainers are bypassing races and horses in hopes of winning against subpar opposition.

Am I the only (other) person including this horse?
