Osama bin Laden's replacement killed by USA

A good thing:

Top Al Qaeda-linked militant reportedly killed by drone attack in Pakistan
Ilyas Kashmiri, an Al Qaeda-linked operative blamed for several high-profile attacks in Pakistan and India, was killed in South Waziristan, say news reports and a statement by his militant organization. Analysts had labeled Kashmiri a possible Osama bin Laden successor.

We hold the purse strings. Thus, when we want to fly over their borders and kill Osama bin Laden, their only recourse is to do the obligatory small amount of public whining on the international stage.

Hey, you need to get "cold and impartial and tough" a bit, Dell.

And stupid me believed the press reports saying we did not notify Pakistan we were coming in because of a fear bin Laden would be tipped off. In other words we didn't trust them.

Every terrorist they kill is the next bin Laden. They're throwing everything but the kitchen sink in order to keep us distracted from the economy.

Trillions to kill glorified cavemen because of our inability to comprehend that Saudis in flight school is a red flag.

They won. Bring on QE3.

so......troops on the ground. ten years in afganistan. soldiers killed and amimed. trillions spent...surely these two douchebags could have been found and killed without all of that....glad they're dead.

Yes. So? It's pretty clear that lower downs within that corrupt government knew bin Laden was there. Why would we tip them off and blow our mission?

Toughen up, bunkie. Real world isn't pretty. With the nuclear weapons in that part of the world, you bet we will continue to hang on to a base of control there, even if it means supporting this or that terrible regime.

Not only Afghanistan, but Iraq. What a waste of American lives. Hell, ignoring the warnings about 9-11 alone still is appalling to me. "Okay, you've done your job". Geeshus cripes. And I thought Nixon was something.

Targeted drone warfare, it's a good thing.

Yeah, isn't all black and white....doesn't mean we have to be in love with these governments but often comes down to lesser of two evils. The good news is that we have recently seen increased success in getting high value targets. Obama putting more emphasis on covert missions, less on a "boots on the ground" philosophy and it's paying off. I don't support "nation building" any more than you do but stopping terrorism begins with cutting off the heads of terrorist groups.

I agree. Bring our troops home, use special ops and drones when needed. That's one thing Obama has done well.

What to do about Gitmo is another disaster. No elected officials would allow them to be housed within their states within the continential US, so closure fell through. We just hold them forever? Targeted release hasn't gone well.

Drones don't refuel and rearm themselves and have a total range of 800 miles max (400 to target). But don't sweat the details.

Drones don't require thousands of troops on the ground. You missed the entire point, but that's okay ;)

That mileage limit is a good reason for us to buy a base of action, huh? <g>

missles are just as accurate and far more lethal. 6000 mile roundtrip range though you usually only use half of that. ;)

When you figure out the cost of the base, lives lost maintaining it and bribe money needed to keep them going, tomahawks though expensive are extremely cost effective.
