Calabrese firing track instead of trainer

So ridiculous. He hasn't been winning to his liking so he is taking his ball and going somewhere else.

It was nice having him at a track that was unplayable to begin with, for a few weeks, anyway.
At least he's not going back to Chicago. But it SUCKS for Monmouth (bettors).

Unusual for a track to give a guy 48 stalls in the middle of a meet, no? I guess they were empty.

Bigsmc 06-03-2011 06:34 AM

The fact that Monmouth has 48 stalls to give in the middle of the meet has to be somewhat alarming to the Monmouth fans.

Calder threatening to cut purses 18 months after the grand opening of their casino has to be a bit of a blow to the slots will save racing people.

Where Canani/Calbrese end up? Meh.

GBBob 06-03-2011 07:39 AM

With apoligies to Jed Clampett..

Come listen to the story about an owner named Frank
won lots of races but was known as a real crank
Then one day Calder cried poor
and that pissed off ole Frank for sure

Nick..pack up...we're leaving!

Well next thig you know the horses are in the van
'heading North as fast as they can
Frank's not running for purses like he's a whore
He's moving to the Jersey Shore

Lots of stalls! Bruce Springsteen!

Well now Frank will be arriving real soon
it might be a bust it might be a boon
But as soon as he sees that Monthouth crop
you know he'll be doing the ole claim and drop

That was pretty circumstancial as many horsemen who nornally would have sent horses hesitated not knowing if the meet was coming off at all...

It wasn't pretty circumstancial, it was 100% circumstancial. I'll be the first to admit that I have no clue what the situation is there, but reading there were stalls to be had raised a red flag with me.

There are still plenty of empties according to trainers there.

It's so amusing to see the empress get the feathers of his boa ruffled wherever he goes these days.

I thought Calabrese won both # Wins and $ titles at Tropical in the fall, is leading both at Calder and led owners in wins at Gulfstream.

Top 5 in the country in wins this year and last and in the top 20 in earnings this year.

It seems he knows, at least a little bit about, what he's doing.

He'll probably do well out of NJ. Certainly the claiming side of things is much more attractive there.

Yeah, takes a lot of talent to claim for 25k and run back for 10k and win.

That's CLASSIC!!!

And whatever the over/under is on when he ends up in an argument with the Monmouth bunch.. I'll take under.

Yeah, like Romacaca, which he claimed for $25k and won $400,000 with?

Yeah, because one success story trumps the hundreds of horses that he has claimed then dropped immediately. Good call.

I don't think Paulo has ever spent summers with Frank

Kasept 06-04-2011 08:40 AM

Calabrese picks good time to leave..

Calder/horsemen agree on deal that includes 7.5% purse hike: http://www.drf.com/news/calder-purse...ing-compromise

NTamm1215 06-04-2011 09:10 AM

This is great, he will make Monmouth's largely unbettable races completely unappealing.
