Goldikova vs. Canford Cliffs

Coming up next month in the Queen Anne Stakes on the 14th at Ascot. Everyone knows what Goldikova has done in her career but not as many know about Canford Cliffs. He finished last year with three straight G1 wins (Ir. 1000 Guineas, St. James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes) and today started off his 4yo season with a win in the G1 Lockinge. Is he going to be up to beating the great mare? Poor Europeans being forced to watch stuff like this and Frankel and Workforce while we get to enjoy Animal Kingdom and Game on Dude.

Goldikova may not be heading to Ascot.

Only people that don't follow European racing don't know about Canford Cliffs.

Turkey's finest moment, for an irish bred

The milers are excellent in Europe again this year. That was a solid field, but I'm not going wild over that result. He doesn't get the crown until he takes down #1. Further, not sure what to think about the effort needed to take down an Italian invader. Maybe that one will prove to be good at the top level, but that is another thing to see. The Queen Anne will be a darn good race though, Goldie or no Goldie.

Safe to say that may be the majority of American racing fans?

Canford Cliffs has won a few important races. Now he has to defeat a few important horses.

Noble's Promise and his Euro equivalent Dick Turpin don't count.

That's it.

chalk up another G1 for her - won the Ispahan cosily enough. Hopefully they go to Royal Ascot for a showdown with Canford Cliffs now.

Her 1/2 sister looks to be a good one as well.

There was some question as to whether she would go to Royal Ascot, but it appears she will make the trip. Should be an interesting race.

Biggest Ascot race shaping up now is the Prince of Wales with So You Think, Planteur, Workforce, Rewilding, and Twice Over all likely. Going to be a great week of racing.

Only if Dubai sinks into the sea

Ill take Planteur to beat the Aussie superstar in the Prince Of Wales - that does look a fantastic race.

In the Queen Anne, Goldi is currently 6/4 underdog against Canford Cliffs at 5/4. Id rather be on the mare at those prices..

The bookmakers are very smart, and they know she is the popular choice, which leads me to believe Canford Cliffs should be an even heavier favorite.

Andy, you could well be spot on. I think the general consensus from her last run was that she had lost a step or two and won't have the pace dropping back to a mile against a top notcher like Canford. However, I was impressed with her run, better than the rating guys suggest, the 2nd is a proper horse around Longchamp and the 3rd is a rapid improver (the race will look better by year end I think). On the other hand, the general view was Canford's reappearance was much better which I do not believe.

Add in the fact that Canford's trainer is saying he got so close to beating her last year with Paco and now has a better horse to face her with (I thought Peslier went much too soon in the race last year flattering the runner-up), the public look like they are deserting the mare in favour of Canford.

Poor English racing fans. They will be forced to watch Goldikova, Canford Cliffs, Frankel, and So You Think over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Did you need to say this twice in an effort to get someone to reply?

Just for you, I might say it 10 more times. Because I like you so much. Or I might just not post anymore because it bothers you so much. I just want to do whatever it takes to make you happy. Help me to help you.
