2005 Afleet Alex*
2006 Jazil
2007 Rags to Riches*
2008 Da Tara
2009 Summer Bird*
2010 Drosselmeyer
2011 ???

So does this mean this year's winner will actually be a good horse?

slotdirt 05-13-2011 01:09 PM

Isn't Strike the Gold or Hansel or some other such obscure Classic winner of relatively recent vintage in Turkey somewhere?

Found an article from 2003 where they talked about bringing him back, but not sure if it ever happened.

Thanks. I was speaking fecetiously earlier as I was, well, there. Jazil was a little more forgettable than, say, Rags to Riches in so far as recent vintage Belmont winners go.

Nope, never happened. After Old Friends sold $50 certificates trying to raise the money, too. The TJC knew how badly Old Friends, Zito, etc wanted him back, and charged accordingly I think. I feel I saw something on tv during the Derby about him being pensioned. They said "retired" which I took to mean from stud, not to stud, but who knows. Gotta remember not everybody watching the Derby (like 'pick a horse by name or color' people) is gonna do the math and figure out he can't possibly still be running so maybe they spelled it out. He's old enough to be pensioned though.

Facetiously?

Dare I ask what fecetiously means?

By the way, for the Vol Jacks and Hockeys of the world, I know what he meant and am not doing the grammar police thing here.
