Met Mile

I read over the weekend that Sadler is pointing Twirling Candy to the Met Mile.

Morning Line is headed there as well, Smiling Tiger, Soaring Empire, and Dublin!.

Going to be a fun race. We needed a non-Derby thread on here.

I can't wait!

Who is Sadler entering in the 2012 Met Mile?

Thats good news. Should be a fun race.

Dublin needed a little time off ehh.

It would be great if Twirling Candy comes. You also have to wonder if any of the fast 3YOs could take a shot this year, though I guess with the Woody Stephens 12 days away, they will probably go there.

The Met is a great race. If the Carter stays as it looked last week, Morning Line will be very tough there, unless Apriority ships.

How could Dublin possibly lose?

Why would they?
None of them would have any shot to compete with decent older horses.

Ok, I'll bite.

Why do you say that?

NTamm1215 04-04-2011 10:58 AM

These 3YOs from DrugS' Derby chances list would be interesting in the Met Mile to me (though none of them will probably go):

Dialed In
The Factor
To Honor And Serve
Soldat
Sheckleford
Comma to the Top
Sway Away

Toss in Flashpoint and Travelin Man as well.

blackthroatedwind 04-04-2011 11:16 AM

The Factor would win the Met.

So would Uncle Mo.

What if they both ran, who would be most likely in a fairly drawn field?

Probably Uncle Mo, as if nothing else we know he can rate, but it would be a helluva matchup.

When (maybe if) The Factor backs-up in the Derby, I wonder if someone could convince Baffert to make that move.

Well, it would obviously depend on who showed up.

If Twirling Candy, Apiority, Morning Line, Soaring Empire, Captain Candyman, Mission Impazable all entered...you would be betting The Factor and Uncle Mo?

Maybe I would too in the Cigar mile this Fall but, not in May.

PatCummings 04-04-2011 04:34 PM

Considering the breeding value people assign to the those monster mile winners over 12-furlong classic horses, why try for the Triple Crown. Can you imagine Mo winning the Derby then waiting for the Met Mile...

Given his opposition to this point, I think he should just squeeze a Met Mile start in between the Preakness/Belmont.

Mo would almost certainly win that race with that field. Maybe Twirling Candy.

Yeah, the first TC winner in over 30 years would definitely be worth less than the Derby-Met double!!

Why not? Especially considering they get an extra 10 pounds as 3 yo's.
