Ever wonder where those $725k yearlings end up?

Imperial Cup Card at Aiken! (DRF PP'S)

Hi Flyin Indy was a $725k Darley purchase in September '07. He ran in The Pampelmousse's Sham where he was 8th for Eoin Harty. Last seen in January of '10 losing to Bourbon Bay, he shows up for his 'chase debut as Danielle Hodsdon's first trainee (I believe her first) in a $15,000 jump MSW.

As a sidebar on this card, note that in the 1st, #3 Odi et Amo makes his debut as a 3yo. Take a good look at the dam listing, because I don't know how likely it is that you'll ever again see Arts and Letters (!) name listed as damsire. He had to be 29 (?) when the dam was foaled and the dam herself had to be 17 when she had this gelding.

It is kind of amazing the pedigrees of some of these horses that just are not fast.

It's unlikely. There are some pretty slow horses in this race. If this horse had significant ability, they would have pointed him to the $25K MSW at Camden the following week. But maybe they're just trying to give him an easy introduction to jumping and he'll progress from there. I would think this is a race he could win.

This horse used to be owned by Darley Stable and is now owned by Sharon Sheppard (unable to determine if there is a connection to champion trainer, Jonathan Sheppard), but if so, it would not surprise me if this horse was given to Danielle in an effort to get her training career off to a start. Danielle is a top jumps rider and usually rides first call for Jonathan, as well as serving as his assistant trainer.

I was kidding.

I figured as much. :) Still, I like the idea of giving this chap a try over jumps. They have very little to lose.

Just a follow-up, Hi Flyin Indy finished 4th beaten 28 lengths, "was way back from the start and was no factor here".
