Thoughts on Saratoga Last Day

CQ - wow what can you say. Much has been talked about him on the Board these past couple of months. Maybe one of the most impressive 2YO performances i have ever seen. Yes the pace was quick and helped him but wow. Can't see anyone touching him as they start to go longer and longer.

Carlos Martin - good to see a good guy like Carlos who had been struggling get 2 wins before he ships to Belmont. Looking forward to sending my 2YO City Zip filly to him shortly.

Jockey Race - in a well publicized stellar field of jocks the race was won by Edgar over Go Go Gomez. Not sure if Johnny V. was 100% at the start of the meet after his injury and riding 1st string to Todd P. may not help him in the number of wins. Julien L. seems to be a star in the making.

Glad the meet is now over... It was a tough meet for many of us handicappers on Derby Trail and for those who made money congrats.

On to Belmont on the way to the Breeders Cup.

Gomez had a great meet, not a good meet.

Can't believe its over. Love Belmont though.

We own two 2YO NY Bred fillies and it has been quite the roller coaster as i was told it might be owning these young horses. One (A Good and Tough filly) has a stifle condition and is basically out of action to next March.

THe second the City Zip filly was a late foal and we sent her to The Finger Lakes in May. The trainer sent her back after six weeks as she was showing signs of developing shin splints. Happily, after a few weeks of rest and growing she will be put back in training at the farm tomorrow. Hopefully, if all goes well she gets shipped to Carlos in about six weeks. I just pray that we can get her to the track in about six weeks and get one or two races in her by year-end. We are hoping she does well at the Aqueduct Winter meet where speed is a premium and because she is by City Zip and am told she can run a little bit. That said, given all that can go wrong with these fragile animals, i will be just happy to see her make it to the races.

Belmont does not suck. And then Keeneland, oh fake track, at least the turf races....
Anyway, at least in my mind, i was ready for the Saratoga meet to end.
