thorn song to stud

not long ago, we were mourning his passing upon hearing he had succumbed to laminitis. then, we find that rumors of his demise were exaggerated.

good news, hope he lives a long, happy life.

I'm very happy he's alive, honestly, but pray tell, who would possibly breed to him?

Agree, completely. That is how I felt about Chelokee when he was retired. How it was passed off that he was a viable stud prospect was beyond me. A career dotted with long breaks, stories about constant issues, nagging issues, and then the Oaks day debacle.

Glad he made it through, but they best get the limited minutes plan, cause no one will be calling.

that i don't know. i'm just glad to know he's fully recovered. i doubt he gets much of a book of mares-but at least he's healthy enough to cover a few.

Thorn Song edges Codeword and Mr White Socks in allowance @ Spa 7/28/07.

Beautiful picture... I'm glad you posted it.

Glad he's still among the living.

He may have had issues, but he still raced 29 times which is probably top 10 in number of career starts by any stallion retired in the past decade.

He is a millionaire. He is a grade 1 winner. Solid credentials based on what else is being retired to stud.

Just sayin'!

All of which is meaningless in this breeding market.

I think his accomplishments are what make him undesirable.

Much like you and me.

Indian Charlie 02-23-2011 09:51 AM

I think people will go to him.

He has a speed pedigree.

He was fast.

He was at least a pretty decent miler, and there is a perception that good milers make the best stallions.

Where? Greece?

They might go for him out there in Cali Freddy, I'm not saying 100 mares, but he might get 20-30 opening year. From what I can tell, there is no Unbridled Song blood out there, and like it or not, he is a very good stallion, just produces them with alot of holes.

He would have a better shot in Greece

Look, I'm not saying he'd be my first choice, but I can see how people would find him an appealing prospect.

Indian Charlie 02-23-2011 10:03 AM

Hey Freddy, would you rather send a mare to Thorn Song for 3500, or go to this son of UBS for 1k?

UBS in a heart beat at least I know I can hawk a nice looking animal to the Jones and make a buck

Cannon Shell 02-23-2011 10:22 AM

Do people still breed CA breds to any stallion other than Swiss Yodeler or Unusual Heat?

I was asking which son of UBS you'd go to, Thorn Song, or the recently retired to Oklahoma Affirmatif.

TS for 3500
Affirmatif for 1000
