Im not even sure the GOAT can help this guy. He is a special sort of hanger.

eajinabi 02-12-2011 12:16 AM

Should we expect him for the Lone Star Handicap for his next start?

Thunder Gulch 02-12-2011 08:14 AM

I don't think he ever gets tired, I just think the Dude likes to hang with his buddies. Somehow he needs to win a few races-easier said than done.

This is a great move. The horse needs a change of scenery and given the way the main track plays at SA, he can be dangerous for the next couple of months.

I wouldn't term it as great. Baffert has multiple horses for the races that First Dude would be racing in that have already been acclimated to California. He would have been served better to give him to someone else in South Florida or New York, IMO.

Ol' Drifty was a special kind of hanger, that's for sure. So was Dynever for that matter.

Baffert has multiple horses for graded stakes races.

First Dude is eligible for a first condition allowance. And after that, a second condition allowance.

He won't have to worry about pitting this horse against one of his other horses until the prep races leading up to the Hollywood Gold Cup, and by then, he'll have all his favorite Lone Star, Sunland, and Churchill races to spread them out in.

I dont get it with this horse. What was his excuse vs restricted company in the Sunshine Millions? He trys hard, I get that, but hes not that good. I think both of Bafferts recent older male allowance winners are better.

Intangible as it is, there's something to be said for "developing" a horse progressively through conditioned races. He simply wasn't allowed to do that once he got that first minor award in the Florida Derby.

The Sunshine Millions flop may be a sign that he's hopeless at this point, but certainly a drop down into his allowance conditions is his best shot at getting back on track.

Whether or not he likes to win, First Dude has beaten Game On Dude in both their meetings. Mythical Power is nothing to write home about either.

Not yet, but I still hope he can develop into a useful backwheel key

Time

Danzig 02-13-2011 11:53 AM

i thought that might be what he meant, but then again...baffert greatest all time? really? lol

Sightseek 02-19-2011 08:02 AM

Looks like First Dude is fitting in well with Baffert's program:

First Dude (Stephen Got Even), 5f, :59.60, 1/101

I'm Actually not sure why that's funny. Baffert is a legend. Lets ignore all of his on track accomplishments and focus on the hair and Jill. The hair and Jill alone put him into the legendary status category. Not to mention he is part of Thoroughbred Legends. So obviously he is not only a legend in my eyes but in his own eyes.

NTamm1215 04-09-2011 06:09 PM

Maybe he's getting him figured out? I know, I know, it was a N1X.
