NFL lockout

How can the owners sign deals like this and still act like they are all losing their ass?

Creative bookkeeping!

the owners make $4 billion on tv contracts in 2011 even if no games are played. they structured tv contracts the last few years in anticipation.

they'll be a lockout.

gene upshaw actually did a remarkable job on the owners last time. nfl players currently get a bigger piece of the pie than in any other revenue sharing sport. i'm sure they know they'll be giving some of that back.

jerry jones and the other large market teams want to press the advantage they have now. small market teams may be the ones that eventually force a compromise but there's no reason to do that until they're actually losing money. nothings going to be seriously negotiated before games are missed. probably a lot of games.

The Owners also know that many players are, um, not so good with their money and will not last long without a paycheck. Once the checks stop, there will be massive pressure on the players side to cut a deal.

I'll look at the bright side and would be glad we won't have to play GB next year if it happens.

After witnessing this type of situation numerous times over the years, NOTHING will happen in the near future. It will drag on and on until one side or the other gets desperate, right at the last minute (before a lockout), or even later than that. Neither side gives a rats ass about the fans, never have, never will.

Wonder if they'll field scabs like in '87? This is a foregone conclusion - just a matter of how long it will drag on. The NFLPA in my opinion is in a better spot than the Union was the last time - the owners are using the 18 game season as leverage though they know the players and most fans do not want to see the game structure change in the manner that that type of format will force...

Player safety is a primary issue, though there is no tangible way to address it...it is a violent sport - they all know that going in... There needs to be some sort of lifetime health care system for these guys the long term effects of getting the snot knocked out of you weekly are clearly apparent.

The NFLPA needs to put on the victim hat and expose the owners as money-grubbers that care about nothing other than lining their pockets (not the case, exclusively, IMO) but they need to position their cause that way to gain sympathy from the public and minimize the length of the lock out.

I'd set the over / under at Oct 30th and if it goes that long, hope it goes another week for wall to wall BC coverage ;)

I think that they care mostly about lining their pockets, except Jerry Jones who cares about feeding his ego while lining his pockets.

If there is a lockout will Cleveland get to participate in that feature?? Will they actually get locked out too? I'd hate for them to get left out of something like that.
