Saturday, Gulfstream R5.

Who does everyone like? Im having a hard time with this race. The one thing I am certain about is I want to beat Yawana Twist. Im leaning towards the 1,8.... But even that is with no confidence. Does anyone like anything clever in this race?

Dahoss 02-04-2011 10:18 PM

Terrible betting race....but Moonport is a little interesting to me, at least underneath.

Im asking why. Not to be a smart ass, but I would really like to know. I tryed liking that horse. I keep looking at the Churchill mile race and thinking that might be good enough, but there are also a ton of negatives with that horse.
Also are you against Yawana Twist?

RockHardTen1985 02-04-2011 10:26 PM

How about Gulfstream Race 6?
I think the 8 can win. The 10 also feels like a favorite you want to try to beat. The 7,8 could have just as much upside at this point.

I'm not crazy about any of the favorites. The Biker Boy of 2 years ago would crush these, but he's been off for a year. Mad For Smarty beat 4 horses last time and 4 of them came back to run off the board in 20-30k claimers. If Yawanna Twist has anything left he should win, but it's hard to get too excited about him. I don't see how Ask Joe can win, as lonf as the other speeds don't scratch.

I just thought the fact Moonport isn't in for a tag is a good sign. He has shown the ability to pass horses, has run well at Gulfstream and should get a decent pace to run at. But he's been off a long time and is very fragile. If he's in the 10 to 15-1 range I might bet a few dollars to win and under Yawanna Twist and Biker Boy. I think there are a lot better opportunities tomorrow than this race.

1 might get a piece at a price.

Kanagaro-Benergy exacta for me in the 8th. I fear the winner of this race will find its way into a Haskin column ... almost certainly will be a horse most undeserving of any ink.

I dont like Kanagaro at all, but my friend does. He also has no real reasson to like him other then its an Indian Charlie.
Why do you like him?

Have you seen his last race?

Yes, I bet against him last race because I did not like him going in. I know he had a trip, but the 1-2 finishers coming out are slugs. The Shug might be OK, but did not show much and the Todd was HORRIBLE.
He seems like the type who will find trouble, maybe Im wrong. I guess on a spread in the pick 4 you have to use him.

As Hossy said - Solis put him to sleep in his last race. His race two starts back was decent and the pace was slower than it appears.

I guess there is a slight fear he might be a heartless underneath horse - but he's been gaining in smaller field slow early-fast late type races. In a 12 horse field he should have no excuse at all and be able to run his optimal race.

I'll be watching the board with the Lion Heart debuter and Pletcher/JRV debuter in case they're really live ... unless they are it's probably a two horse race and a sub-par MSW at that.

Starship Valor at 12/1 or higher

Where did Hossy say that? I must have missed it. I agree about it being sub-par and maybe Im being 2 quick to dismiss him. I kinda thought the Zito had a shot.

The Shug horse ran a good 4th off a layoff against a promising Zito horse - 7 furlongs is too short for him and he closed well He's no slug..........I did think off that maiden win that he was better than Todd's horse, who was getting a lot of hype for his pedigree. This race is filled with intriguing firsters working very well.

I dont think the Shug ran that well. Of course he wants more distance, thats what everyone says for all Bernardinis. He just missed first out, why did 7f have to be to short? First out they ran slow, and Im thinking thats what he is, slow.

Then I take it you were not impressed with Heron Lake's race? If so, then that's fine, we'll disagree. It's not worth arguing about.

Heron Lake was a firster, who beat a horse who is supposed to be pretty good. I like him.

Ok, but Break up the Game finished maybe a length or so behind himI. Heron Lake got an 84 BSF, so I guess BUTG got an 81 or 82 - that's pretty decent for a 2nd start.

Anyway, speaking of Heron Lake, he worked a bullet at Palm Meadows today - 3 furlongs in 36, breezing. I can't see Nick pushing this colt to make the Derby, but he is one to watch. Arch Traveller, who finished 3rd in that race, runs tomorrow.
