I don't think this is a big surprise. Especially since a lot of the mares mentioned are getting up there in age and breeders like to match them with younger stallions. $35k is a pretty reasonable fee.

Clip-Clop 02-04-2011 02:17 PM

Despite the lacking competition, he is a back to back champ with a solid record.

Indian Charlie 02-04-2011 02:57 PM

I'm aware it's Coolmore, but I'm not aware that Coolmore owns most of those mares listed.

I've liked Lucky since his early 2yo season, but still, there are better stallions at better prices.

Hell, Indian Charlie to this day doesn't get overall books like that!

You are missing the point. If you are breeding to sell having Coolmoore and clients supporting you doesnt suck. You have Baffert and his clan. Pegram has always supported whatever he has owned to a point. Plus Lucky is a Smart Strike so it isn't impossible that Farish and friends would be interested in a nice filly or two.

Indian Charlie 02-04-2011 05:08 PM

I get all that.

It's just nuts to send that many quality mares, in the grand scheme of things, to that stallion.

I understand why it's being done. I just think it's pretty dumb.

freddymo 02-04-2011 07:00 PM

Act least the horse came back as a 3 year old and ran well. No reason he cant be a good stallion. Maybe he is a complete flop? All of a sudden Mineshaft is showing some life?

Cannon Shell 02-04-2011 07:19 PM

Of all the horses going to stud this year I think LaL has the best chance to be a big time sire. By far.

Indian Charlie 02-04-2011 07:57 PM

I'd agree that the prospective first crop sires this year isn't great, and that LaL is up there among the best of them, but he lacks brilliance.

He was a solid and consistent performer in an abysmal time for racing.

FuPeg at half the price is ten times better the value. Maybe more.

Shocking you like a Smart Strike..lol

What's wrong with Eskendereya? I wouldn't be surprised if he was a terriffic stallion. But who the .......... really knows anymore

I am surprised you think Lookin at Lucky will be a better stud then Zenyatta...How could you?

He's had some really nice runners however. Granted he did not live up to expectations as a sire, but he's still pretty useful, especially at 15k.

Fupeg has so many bad foals that no one bothers

WHO???
What decent runners he's thrown have been fillies.

I think he may have a chance to be a decent broodmare sire but, there wouldn't be value in breeding to FuPeg if he was free.

Not a fan of sons of Giants Causeway at stud
GC sires brittle horses better suited to the turf

He gets a ton of nightmares though. He was bred to a million mares, many very good mares at one time. Plus unless the foals are perfect people are reluctant to pay good money for them because of how crazy and unsound they are.

Admittedly, I'm not privy to such things.

Roman Ruler.
Bandini.
The BC Turf runner up, Champ Pegasus

He also had some Aussie superstar, Hardsun, or something like that.
