Wallace ends Oaklawn race-calling streak

After calling 20,191 consecutive races at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., announcer Terry Wallace decided to watch Friday’s fifth race on the track apron in a move that brought an end to a streak that began 37 years ago. Frank Mirahmadi, who had been retained as the backup announcer for Oaklawn for 2011, took over for the fifth race, with Wallace returning to call the remainder of the card.

Oaklawn officials believe Wallace’s announcing streak is a world record, and have submitted an application to have it formally recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records.
If I start a thread where I select the five or ten most hopelessly overmatched horses running in North America each day ... once I run the streak to a few thousand straight losers - do you think Guinness Book of World Records will recognize it?

Since Clocker Lawton and Molly Jo Rosen credit anyone of their top four selections who wins as a winner - I suppose I can also wait for only races with four horse fields and compile a thousand straight winning selections over time.

Two records.

I got excited when I saw the title of this thread. Then disappointment when I read he was taking off only 1 race. The guy is beyond horrible. I mute everytime I watch an Oaklawn race.

You would think after calling that many races he could remember the horses name's without pausing 5 secs to find his program down the back stretch.

Not saying I would do any better but, I haven't called 20k races either.

Streak ended about 20,190 races too late.

You would think the record belongs to an announcer at one of those racemeets that never seems to end because they can rack up more races in a shorter period. Phil Saltzman called over 40,000 races at Calder.
