1/21: Gulfstream (6th-10th)

There's a reason David Milch has titled his upcoming HBO series about the game 'Luck', and one glance at how Aqueduct's late P4 worked out will demonstrate why. Feature race winner Rein King was only going to be able to win the 8th if all other possible pace types took back or simply didn't apply pressure. That scenario materialized, and bug boy Brian Pedroza sailed home at 8-1 to guarantee a quality payout in the quad. When L L Flying Notes corralled without excuse 3-5 Good to Be Me in deep stretch in the 9th, the reward was an $867 P4 on a $45 play. The beauty of multi-race wagering is that it allows you to employ horses that will be successful in less-than-likely scenarios. When they benefit within the sequence, it deliver bonus payouts to you for using your imagination. It was an especially fun Aqueduct afternoon given Lloydobler's entertaining placement in the day's 3rd race. The gelding ran his best race since last winter, and snapped back towards his career best figs. Hope you did well... Gulfstream has the important action today and the Big A has been cancelled anyway due to snow!

Uggh... I know we killed it Monday with the "OTT", but it really spoils this sequence.

I wonder is this might've had something to do with the fact that he actually changed leads in the lane --- something that he doesn't seem to do often. Which got me wondering whether Zito was training him.

This is not to say, of course, as some of the in-the-kniow types would quickly point out, that it's possible to get all horses to change leads on a consistent (by, say, focusing on turn training). After all, of all the dogs that Pavlov conditioned, I'm sure there were some that he just couldn't get to salivate when they heard that bell.

did they scratch because of the weather?
They don't card that many allowance races for 3-year olds at that distance.
Wonder if they'll take a shot at the Holy Bull now, next weekend?

Great call on the 11 Steve.

Race 9
#5 Beamer, I think this is a race to catapult him into the 3 years old picture. I think Nafzger is moving this colt along in a good way. The time he ran at Tampa was very fast, but I think today we will learn if the talent is coming along.

Your Tomlinson Turf rating is off the charts (over 500) with limited starters.
