Meeks says minority contracts should only go to blacks

Mayoral challenger James Meeks came under fire Thursday for suggesting that only African-Americans should be eligible for city contracts set aside for minorities and women. One critic called the comments “extremely divisive.’’ Meeks later backed down, saying that only white women should be excluded from set asides.
