Do you agree with Alan Shuback?

Two stories caught my attention this week:
This one,especially the last sentence,
http://www.drf.com/news/purse-cuts-2...reland-hardest
And this one, from the NYRA site:
http://www.nyra.com/aqueduct/stories/Dec112010b.shtml
I tend to agree with him,in that there is a need for more people in attendance at racetracks. It certainly won't hurt. What are your thoughts?

Without reading either story: it amazes me that Alan Shuback is paid to write about horse racing.

But his pre-BC analysis in the DRF each year is flawless. Has he picked a winner in the BC Turf ever?

Behkabad was a monster!

Without an increase in live bodies in seats at racetracks around the nation, our problems will continue.

I know you were just being cute, but both of those sites are in BIG trouble.

I'm not sure how likely it is to pass, but those sites would be dead.

hockey2315 12-16-2010 08:34 PM

I agree with you 100%. . . The word "cute" probably sounded like more of a slight than it was meant to. Us young'ns have to stick together.

no they wouldn't. i'll continue to play offshore where reporting for tax purposes is up to the player. as would any sensible player.

they'll do just fine under this bill.

As I understand it, FT, PS etc. will be completely shut out to the U.S. market. After the dark period is over, only sites connected to casinos will be allowed to open up new sites.

how would that be accomplished? after the 2006 "ban" on internet gambling one publically held company (party poker) restricted access to u.s. residents.

everyone who didn't already have one opened new accounts at full tilt, ultimate bet, poker stars, or one of a few hundred lesser known privately held sites.

i have a hard time imaginging all the sites that already accept u.s. customers in violation of current u.s. law suddenly giving up a large part of their customer base because of a new law.

I don't agree with Alan Shuback, I agree with Alan Speegish.

They limit U.S. players' abilities to get money in an out of their accounts. Duh. Some of that has already happened.

it really hasn't been much of a problem at full tilt. I made a withdrawal in september and they did a direct deposit to my checking account. the time before that they sent a check. i've had no problems funding the account when needed.

I've done bank transfers and wires, but more and more banks have begun to limit transactions. . . The general consensus within the poker community is that this legislation is a definite concern for the short term.

hockey2315 12-17-2010 08:13 PM

Nevermind. . . I think the bill got killed.
