NASA Discovers New Life

NASA Discovers New Life! Arsenic Bacteria With DNA Completely Alien To What We Know

NASA is holding a press conference today at 2pm to announce a major finding in their research in the field of astrobiology and speculation has reached a fever pitch after the agency said the finding "will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life."

The news has leaked now, and while the discovery is not extraterrestrial life, NASA has indeed uncovered an entirely new life form on our planet that "doesn't share the biological building blocks of anything currently living" on Earth, Gizmodo reports.

Discovered in the poisonous Mono Lake, California, this bacteria is made of arsenic, something that was thought to be completely impossible. While she and other scientists theorized that this could be possible, this is the first discovery. The implications of this discovery are enormous to our understanding of life itself and the possibility of finding beings in other planets that don't have to be like planet Earth.

there is no way we are alone in this world. but its hard to really think about cause it makes your head want to explode.

But what does that do to religious arguements? has Jesus showed up on all planets with life on it?

Sounds like somebody wants those funding checks from the government to keep coming.

Wonder if the Democrats have anything to do with the funding for this research?

it's not quite as exciting as "discovering" a new form of life. they took an existing microbe and placed it in an arsenic rich petri dish where it evolved to replace phosphorus in it's dna chain with arsenic.

it's still big news.

I couldn't care who is funding it, like JMS said, it just seems like a colossal waste of money.

i know i already beat this to death a few months ago but there is no bigger waste of money than the manned space program.

we would accomplish far more real science for far less money if we didn't spend hundreds of billions building man rated spacecraft.

No arguement here from me.

It may explain the existence of Morty :D

and now a mars colony is in vogue?

That's unbelievable huge news. I'm waiting for something to come out, that there was a research error or something that invalidates it.

I'm sure the House GOP will attempt to unfund all the science they can. Unfortunately, Boehner already has disbanded the panel on climate change.

Jesus lives! He will save us! The rapture will come (that's why Sarah as to be President, God told her) Build an ark in Kentucky and tell people dinosaurs and man walked the earth together!

Screw stem cell research. People with spinal cord sections don't need science to walk again. Just a good televangalist

How about we go bi-partisan and use embryos of illegals for stem cells?

Nobody does embryonic stem cell any more (no new lines)

Even in clinical practice I don't do adipose-derived, just bone marrow - advances are fast & furious. Veterinary medicine is about 10 years ahead of human medicine in clinical application, thank you, you effing moron George Bush II, for single-handedly setting back cures for diabetes and spinal cord all that time. The human world "just" got to a promising spinal cord Phase I study.

I wouldn't make light of stem cell research. You'll probably end up benefiting from some form of it before you die.

I'm all for stem cell research/treatment despite my Catholic upbringing, embryo or not.

That's a good thing, because it is simply awesome. I predict within 20 years, we will have (readily used) laboratory-derived skin, heart muscle patches, pancreatic islet cells, menisci.

Don't worry about the Catholic upbringing, it's no longer an issue - there are currently established old cell lines that are embryologically-derived and approved for use, but no new ones, and there will not be; all the hot research is on using one's own stem cells to create what is needed.

I'm still breathlessly awaiting news of the discovery of INTELLIGENT life on Capitol Hill!
