Retired -140
Not +120

Official official retirement, or like 2009 official retirement?

Travis Stone 11-17-2010 11:57 AM

The true shame in all of this is that we saw what she was capable of two weeks ago... and that was the only time we got to see it on that level outside of the '09 BC.

What would Zenyatta do for Whitney Day at Saratoga... or Stephen Foster Day at Churchill... or JCGC Day at Belmont?

LANE’S END

PRESS RELEASE
November 17, 2010

TWO-TIME CHAMPION ZENYATTA TO LANE’S END

Jerry and Ann Moss’ great champion ZENYATTA, who recently retired from racing, will be boarded at Mr. and Mrs. William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Kentucky. She is expected to arrive in early December.

ZENYATTA won 19 of 20 starts with her only loss coming in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic when she ran second, by just a head, after coming from far off the pace. She set North American female records in earnings - $7,304,580 and with an extraordinary 13 Grade 1 wins. Those Grade 1 wins include the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic and the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic. She earned Eclipse Awards as champion old mare in both 2008 and 2009.

ZENYATTA was purchased by David Ingordo on behalf of the Mosses at the 2005 Keeneland September yearling sale. She was trained by John Shirreffs and ridden for most of her career by Mike Smith.

Steve Haskin recently wrote for The Blood-Horse magazine the following tribute, “Those six inches that separated her from an unbeaten record will be more and more inconsequential as the years go by, consumed by the vast scope of her accomplishments . . .”

Breeding plans have not yet been finalized

That means AP Indy, Smart Strike, or improbably, Curlin.

With AP Indy turning 22, it would be smart to go to him.

Riot 11-17-2010 12:48 PM

Smart Strike.

Smoothie is going to be like soooo jealous!

Travis Stone 11-17-2010 12:51 PM

Has any racing mare of this magnitude ever produced a foal of similar ability?

trackrat59 11-17-2010 12:58 PM

If it's AP Indy at 22 years old God bless him. He should start to rest up now for his likely encounter:{>:with a Queen.

I don't know about similar ability, but Personal Ensign produced My Flag, Our Emblem and Miner's Markwho were all okay. Miesque produced Kingmambo who was a pretty good miler in Europe and has been a solid sire.

NTamm1215 11-17-2010 01:02 PM

Mike Smith has been chosen as the teaser sire.

GPK says English Channel has a chance.

Other than bring a bunch of people not to familar with the game and all wearing Pink and clogging up the betting lines...not much..

No Scat or Scat out ending?
I disagree. She would bring excitment and a buzz to any of those tracks.

Sometime back, I remember reading somewhere (maybe here - not sure) that the Moss's were seriously considering A.P. Indy.

Cannon Shell 11-17-2010 01:19 PM

I would imagine that AP Indy would be the morning line favorite but personally I wouldnt go to him. A mare her size with her lack of zip needs some speed bred into her and I dont believe that he is covering mares very well anymore.
Smart Strike is very unlikely as the foal would be 2x4 to mr P and I doubt they have the stomach to inbreed that closely to him.
I would have to think Curlin would be a longshot for personal reasons not to mention he is completely unproven.

If I was asked to choose a mating for her I would choose Medaglia D'oro . The foal would represent a complete outcross and MDO has had tremendous success when crossed with Mr P line mares, including Rachael Alexandra and Warriors Reward. He would also bring speed to the equation.

Everybody's high on consolation
Everybody's trying to tell me what's right for me
My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon but it's plain to see that they can't comfort me Sorry Charlie for the imposition I think I've got it, got the strength to carry on
I need a drink and a quick decision
Now it's up to me, ooh what will be

Chorus:
She's Gone Oh I, Oh I'd better learn how to face it
She's Gone Oh I, Oh I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's Gone -what went wrong
Up in the morning look in the mirror
I'm worn as her tooth brush hanging in the stand
my face ain't looking any younger
now I can see love's taken her toll on me
She's Gone
Think I'll spend eternity in the city let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away and pretty bodies help dissolve the memories but they can never be what she was to me
She's Gone

I would imagine being at Lanes End, she's going to a stallion there.

I don't see her going to MDO, because they are petty and probably would not send Z to the sire of Rachel Alexandra.

Her nick with Indian Charlie is quite excellent!

AP Indy it will be.
