0-for-54
That's Steve Asmussen's record in stakes races run on a synthetic track going back to his last such synthetic stakes win on September 27th of 2008 when Zanjero beat Extreme Supreme at Turfway Park.
Included among it is Curlin's 4th place finish in the BC Classic behind two Euro 3yo's and Tiago. The streak doesn't include Pyro's memorable disaster in the Blue Grass after Frank Lyons conceded the race to him in the post parade. Keeneland's coming up - so Asmussen has a chance to maybe pad this stat a little. If only he got better stock to train. |
He's actually knocking on the door at least at Woodbine over the course of this brilliant streak:
At Woodbine: 31-0-4-6 At US tracks: 23-0-1-0 Combined: 54-0-5-6 2yo races: 29-0-4-5 Non 2yo races: 25-0-1-1 |
DrugS...any plausible reason he sucks on syn ?

I think it is mainly due to the breeding of the stock he gets.
He has the reputation of a dirt/speed trainer ....the types that Heligrobrodt (sp?) Breed/buy. How he gets all that speed out of horses that work extremely slow in the mornings is beyond me. |

Yes. That would be redboarding. I will be at the bank that morning.

The meet he had during Presque Isle's first year was one of the most stunning displays of horses under performing I've ever seen by a trainer at a meet. Every racing day there was a horse he had in - who had to fall down to lose on paper - and they'd be beaten soundly with absolutely no excuse. 20+ beaten favorites in a row - I think the number was 24 in a row off of the top of my head. He started like 3-for-70 .. which is hard to do when you're a short price almost every race. It was crazy. |
