Fair Grounds plays musical races, names a G3 for Rachel

The news barely out and FG is ready to go. They're renaming the Silverbulletday (G3) the Rachel Alexandra, renaming the Tiffany Lass the Silverbulletday. Tiffany Lass won the Kentucky Oaks. Not sure if they'll keep passing it down or if there will just be no more race named for her. I feel kinda bad, but it's not quite rivaling the La Troienne, Lady's Secret, etc fiascos.

I noticed that Rachel's dam, Lotta Kim, won the Tiffany Lass back in the day.

Worst corporation ever.

I always liked Tiffany Lass.

Joe Cantey trained her.

I always thought Laz trained her.

Since nothing is sacred, rename the original Lady's Secret the Zenyatta, the new one the Rachel Alexandra, and the Ruffian can be changed to the Lisa's Booby Trap.

You are correct.

Was I thinking of Tiffany Ice?

Oh right, sorry. I was preoccupied trying to come up with an appropriate way to honor Oprah Winney.

That is a shame. It was also a shame when the Davona Dale was renamed the Silverbulletday.

The Tiffany Lass was first run in 1992 and was named after the popular filly. After she won her debut at Hollywood in December, Laz Barrera thought he might have an Oaks filly on his hands, so he shipped her to his brother Angel at Fair Grounds to prepare her. At Fair Grounds, she won an allowance, the Thelma, Davona Dale, and Fair Grounds Oaks. In the FG Oaks, she beat Bonnie Miss winner Patricia JK and Las Virgenes winner Life At The Top. Although Silverbulletday won the Davona Dale and FG Oaks back when Baffert used to bring some serious firepower to FG for its stakes, Tiffany Lass is definitely more closely associated with Fair Grounds.

well how about just making a new stakes race and naming it after the horse, and not taking away from one already being honored.

I think it's a quickie way of getting graded status for a race sometimes. Horses already point to it or use it as a prep for another race. Right out of the gate, the Zenyatta wouldn't have to build to a G1 and they don't need to get a purse put together for it, they just shift everything over. They could've given her a different graded race, but whatever. I was a bit annoyed with how they chose Rachel's. Would they ever even try to make the grading any higher than G3 since it points to the Fair Grounds Oaks?
