Which tracks will close in the next 10 years?
Suffolk, Turfway and Ellis have to stand stand out.
|
Geary will poor boy it until they get slots. He can gamble 5 more years. The tears for the camera are just battle tactics.
|
Sam Houston for sure.
|
Hollywood.
|
Golden Gate Fields will probably close in that time frame, the land is just to valuable. It sits on the bay across from San Francisco and has a view of the city and the Golden Gate Bridge - fantastic views!
|
^^^^ Yippy Downs for the same reason.

Big changes in California racing, but it's hard to tell who will survive. Hollywood will close Santa Anita will change, but my guess is it will have most of Californias racing dates. Los Al could sell and close. FairPlex is really old. Del Mar is a pain in racings a s s to race 6 weeks a year so far from home. California racing is doomed. |

I think everyone here is on thin ice. Some just don't know it. Never hold back. |
If Yippee Downs is a desease, I want to catch some of that. It has some beautiful bushes planted all over.

The buzz is Sam Houston will be done rather shortly.....why the freaken Texas people just want to send the slot Money to Louisiana is beyond me.
Even if it passes in the next round, it could be too late. |

(4th of July was packed though :)) I just am afraid the the purses being as they are, aren't enough to keep the track going. They have what? One Graded race (III) Connally Cup. 45 live racing days a year split between the Thoroughbreds and the Quarters. This is a quote from the track President Andrea Young: "We wish to thank the Texas Horsemen’s Partnership as well as the various breed registries for their hard work during the process of allocating race dates this year. It is no secret that this is a difficult time for racing fans in Texas. Texas race tracks and horsemen are facing intense competition from our surrounding states, all of which offer purses supplemented by slot machines at their race tracks. We feel the way we have structured this meet will give us the best shot at survival in the short term.” I hope it does'nt close, but so far I don't see anything happening here in Texas to change it from being a very good probability in the next 5 yrs, let alone 10. |
