KEE SALE: Book 1 - Hips to Watch (7pm/Sun. & Mon.)
Keeneland Book 1: Hips to watch
By Dan Liebman KEENELAND SALES WEBSITE/LIVE VIDEO LINK -- 7pm START SUN/MON In the newly formatted Keeneland September yearling sale, the auction company switches to a smallish first book of truly select horses, reminiscent of the old Keeneland July sale, which was discontinued following the 2002 edition. Book 1 of the auction, which covers Sept. 12 and 13, has 105 yearlings cataloged during the opening chapter of the 14-session sale and 106 cataloged to the second day. The yearlings in the first book are narrowed down first by pedigree, and then selected by an inspection team after being viewed in the spring. Without knowledge of the physical grades assigned, the following is an opinion of some of the leading pedigrees in Book 1. Obviously, however, it stands to reason that those sired by stallions standing for lesser fees within that catalog were impressive physically to the group of inspectors. I actually liked the 33 better than any of the Empire Maker's so far.

40, who sold for 600K, was so calm in the ring.

Any idea yet who got the Azeri filly? I'm a bit frustrated that I completely zoned out and missed the first 90 minutes...some hips I really wanted to see. Anytime he says "Askin'..." some amount, it sounds like he's saying Haskin which amuses me. |
Only 40K for Lady Joanne's first filly
|
Jimmy and Becky Winemiller got the Azeri.
|
Yeesh, they are practically giving away the Hard Spuns.

I know I'm getting way ahead here with this question but I have a really busy week at work coming up, when hip 2715 (Stormy Atlantic-Somethingaboutlaura filly) sells, can someone let me know the details of the sale? I loved the dam and can't wait to see how her offspring do. Thanks!
