It will be blinkers on and Calvin Borel off Mine That Bird when the 2009 Kentucky Derby winner takes on Quality Road and five others in Saturday’s Grade 1, $750,000 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga

I'm surprised they haven't reached out to Chantal to get back on him. She'd have won the Derby on him.

I kinda know what you mean.

Anyway... my favorite part of the piece was this...

“I hate to lose him,” Borel said Wednesday. “I wish he had been there for me a little more in that race. I’d like to get one more chance. Let them do what they want, they’ll come back around.”

~ Calvin

"I'm happy to lose him," MtB said Wednesday. I wish he had been there for me a little more in that race. Hopefully he doesn't get another chance. They came around."

yep, sure have. now, they may be playing dumb....but i don't recall a horse ever paying much attention to a conversation and putting in their two cents.

When a trainer hustles a horse into his barn and that horse races worse than before you know the jock is going to take the blame.

Merlinsky 09-02-2010 12:02 AM

Lukas said he's been putting MTB in blinkers since the Whitney, and he's supposedly training more forward now. I hope it actually does something more than complete the 'we don't know what else to do but change jockeys, trainers, and equipment' trifecta.

How's Asmussen feeling toward Calvin these days?
