Verbal Abuse of Calvin Borel

The verbal abuse Calvin Borel received walking back through the crowd to the jocks room after "Rachel" was defeated is simply an embarrassment to Saratoga Race Course and is an example of uneducated racing fans who follow this great game for 40 Days and couldn't tell you when the Belmont Fall meet opens. The great part of the Saratoga experience is the access and freedom fans have to horses, trainers, jockeys and other personalities throughout the horse industry. And five or ten idiots had to finish a great racing weekend by telling Calvin Borel what he should or shouldn't have done

Stop yelling at me!

Puhleeze. See what they say at AQ in November...this is NY. Calvin is a big boy.

The Indomitable DrugS 08-29-2010 10:30 PM

He rode a flawless race. It would have been silly for him to try and rate back - and then come outside of Life At Ten. He did everything he could to discourage Velazquez and force him into grabbing a hold and taking Life At Ten back.

It was a match race... and he won the match race over a horse whos an undefeated Grade 1 winner this year by double digit lengths.

Johnny V. on the other hand - he probably wishes he took hold right now. Being drawn outside, he was the one with options.

'An undefeated G1 winner' with pretty slow Rag numbers

Somehow I don't think this moral victory is making Borel (or Asmussen) feel any better tonight…

Its one of those situations where you are damned if you do and damned if you dont. I really dont blame either riders for what they did.

The connections of Life At Ten had nothing to lose. She's already a Grade 1 winner.

If she takes back and avoids the duel - than RA gets to set her own pace unpressured - and they run 2nd to her.

They sent hard hoping Borel would back down and let them have an easy lead.

Running 2nd beaten 4 lengths instead of 3rd by 11.5 lengths is no great win.

I can tell you never been to Aqueduct, you can't see a jockey with a telescope let alone verbally abuse one after a race

Happens to me everyday as I leave HP after calling the races. Passionate game. Fan is short for fanatic. As long as it's not vulgar or personal( Big A exempt) I say If you buy a ticket on a horse you buy the right to complain about the ride. Calvin's a big boy. Chillax.

I am a big fan of Calvin and Im not saying I agree with this, but If Super Saver and Rachel are to run again I could see Calvin off both of them. Shaun is waiting for a crack on Rachel and works her in the mornings. Unless SS comes back at some race at Churchill, I think JV gets the mount.

When I was 19, I went to Yonkers by myself. I witnessed hellacious verbal abuse. I think it scarred me for life.

The verbal abuse was much more than "you stink" they were saying your a mother f%%%%%%. Fall off your next horse. Complaining about a ride with an educated thought is one thing when you buy your ticket. Attacking an individual's character is another

what do you expect. i was there and people were actually crying...no. i am not exagerating. i saw another guy throw stuff all around and kicking things. it was ugly. but you are right many of them don't have a clue about horse racing. thats the advantage all of us (racing geeks) have if we bet right. the only surprise for me, was the horse that won(i had rachel, life at ten and miss singhsix in pic 3's)....i was not the least surprised she did not make the last 50 yards or so. people live in this fantasy world when it comes to BIG horses...they actually believe they are larger than life and unbeatable. it happens in all sports. anyone that follows racing knew she would have a hard time yesterday, regauardless what the shills on TV said....win or lose. this horse runs very hard throughout the entire race. thats her weakness. she did so again yesterday and only sputtered at the very end. it was a brave effort and had nothing to do with calvin. the owners decisions along with the trainer are where the blame lays if there is any. but you won't see people yacking at them over there. the entire season for rachel has been a "spin" game. if you believe anything else then you have not been following racing as long as i have. "vulnerable favorite" is not in the peoples vocabulary that you speak of...they would rather bitch at the jockey.

geeker2 08-30-2010 08:10 AM

It was probably those damn TeaBaggers

I was there -compared to the number of people in attendance it was just a handful of looooosers.
