8/18 Del Mar Race 8...trainer has interesting stats
Smokey Wonder is trained by Myung Kwon Cho, who in 8 starts at Del Mar, is 2-2-2.
Usually, Cho's horses are astronomical prices, and judging from how this one is 30/1, Smokey Wonder should be an astronomical price as well. I'm not sure how I would play this with real money, as the only reason I'm handicapping this race is for the online contest on the Del Mar site. But wouldn't you have to include this horse somehow since his trainer finishes in the money 75% of the time? He's switching to turf for the first time. Didn't show much in his 2 starts...6 by 17 lengths and 8th by 7 lengths in 2 maiden sprints on Cushion. I don't know a lot about his sire or dam and I can't read the Closer Look because I'm too cheap to buy the DRF (I'm reading the BRIS PPs lol) Siberian Summer is the sire and Aristosa is the dam. Do any of those horses sound turfy? I don't know. Anyways, in the Del Mar Online Contest, I'm putting $100 to win on him. But if I were to play this for real, I'd probably backwheel him somehow in the 2nd or 3rd slots of the trifecta. I don't really have any specifics of who I'd play on top of him...Possibly Minister D'Oro would be a must use since he only lost by a nose on turf last time and has Bejarano. |
I actually tried playing Cho earlier on in the meet with his horse Lifeline in the Cougar Handicap. I noticed his stats that day, I noticed the long odds on Lifeline and thought "surely, if this horse finishes at least 3rd or 4th in the super, there should be a good payoff.
He finished dead last. So maybe his horses finish last when I notice them. |
