Phase 2 of the youth movement after re-signing Ray Allen

I think it's easily the best move of a lackluster offseason for them. One year at the minimum is a bargain, even at Shaq's advanced age. They need someone who can defend in the post while Perk is out, and even when Perk comes back, Shaq still is better offensively than Perk is. Plus I'm open to just about anybody who can rebound the ball after what happened in the Finals.

Obviously a desperate attempt to compensate for a missing Perkins body for at least the bulk of the regular season. Not a bad short term idea except for the Celt's brand of defense expected requires a hustling switching frenetic approach which Shaq hasn't been able to play since LA. He is fond of winning though and don't think both LeBron and Kobe won't be on the yielding end of lane collisions in 2011 courtesy of (new nickname) The Big Leprechaun.

Hasn't this group of green earned a little respect yet over the last few years to justify a wait and see approach to how well they will do.

No disrespect, just lots of old legs. Really as we have discussed before they are in a tough spot. Realistically they had no money to replace Allen or Perkins so reupping Allen and signing Shaq are probably prudent moves in an attempt to recreate this years magic. The thing is that Shaq can't stay healthy, Allen is a one way player, one year older and KG is only KG in spurts. Pierce is a year older and doesnt have a contract to play for though he isn't really the quitting type anyway. Sure Rondo is getting better but Chicago and Miami are much better than they were last year and Orlando is still a good team as well. They proved me (and a lot of people) wrong last year for writing them off but I really don't think they are going to be able to hold it together another year. Seriously the chance of all the major players being healthy going into the playoffs is a long one.

The question is, why didn't they go after Delonte West??? I know it might have cost them Brian Scalabrine and a second round pick in 2024 but thats a small price to pay for such a fine player.

Maybe the Pistons will sign him? Him and Mcgrady and last years brilliant moves makes them a big contender to edge Cleveland for 11th in the East next year.
